Cab choices? GK Fusion 550

Sign in to disble this ad
After months of research and changing my mind many times I think I have finally decided on the amp I want. The GK Fusion 550. Now the question of which cab(s) to go with it.

I am basically starting from scratch with this rig. Sold off my old Peavey combo 210tx w/ 115 external cab. Man that thing was heavy. I think I want the Neo410 just not sure if I sould go 8ohm or 4ohm. Only have enough $$ for one cab now but could possibly add another later down the road. How much of a difference is there running the 8ohm 410 by itself instead of the 4ohm?

Don't see myself playing any large venues but I really like having the option to get loud if needed.

Anyone running this setup now? I've seen B-string uses the 412 Neo and is very happy with it. Any other suggestions? Also considering Avatar 410, but would not be able to use the GK bi-amp system. How much of a difference does this make?

I know lots of general questions. Thanks for any input.

First thing to remember with the Fusion 550 is the burst power available to you. My only complaint with the NEO 412 is with the Fusion it is really loud! Most gigs I'm lucky to get above 9:00 on the master. If I did it again I would go with the 8 ohm 212, maybe the 8 ohm 410. When we do "Enter Sandman" I set the gain high and have real trouble getting the master low enough so not to overpower everyone else. The G-K Fusion is not your average 350/500 watt head. Tom B from Bass Gear did burst tests on it and there is a good reason it "feels" like a 800 watter.
Man I love outdoor gigs with it! Nice to see the master up a bit!

Average bar setting on song mentioned

Forgot to mention the HMS with the G-K cab comes in very handy, most of the time the tweeter amp is around 1:00 and makes for sweet highs, that song it is off as overdrive sounds bad through horns.

This is true. The Fusion 550 will put out about 800 watts worth of burst power (into a 4-ohm load), and it will hold this long enough to complete the attack. It also recovers very quickly. Very impressive.

+1 The more I use it, the more I love this feature.

Thanks for the info.

Think I am going to go with the Neo 410 8ohm for now and leave my options open for an extra cab down the road.
