A cab for my Bassman 135... need help!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi,

I've bought a Fender Bassman 135 last year, really dig that amp! I"ve bought it with a 4x12 Fender "pyramide" cab, really not good for bass... now that I've got some money, I'd like to buy a great cab for my head

Problem is that I really don't know what to chose

I was thinking of:
- Orange OBS410
- Markbass 104HF

can get those one in second hand for a good price but maybe there's others choice!

What would you take and why? thanks for you help

(I'm usin' mostly Jazz Bass and sometime a Mosrite bass and I'm playin' indie rock)

It will depend entirely on YOUR ears. Try them all out, buy with your ears. Everyone has different tastes re: bass tone.

I would prefer the Orange Slightly over the Markbass but if you can find an Eden 4 x 10XLT in good order you are going
to love the efficiency and hopefully the tone will work well
with the 4 6L6 UL output, I have the Eden 8X10 with a 4 KT88 Simms watts Ultra Linear amp.
I think it sounds amazing with my mates fender Jazz he incidentally has an old Bassman 100, and that sounds great with it too.
See if you can try a 4x10 out somewhere with your 135
its a very open sound with strong detailed mids not for everyone but I like them loads!
warmer than that the mesa 2X15 with the Electrovoice 15l
speakers match the 135 very well, again lots of bang per
watt and then there are the 1x15 EV TL606 type cabs.
The bigger Sunn 2X15 cab with the JBL K140's is
always worth a listen, its not really much bigger than your fender pYramid but its a truly great clear sound to me but then we are getting more mid forward again.

thanks a lot!!!

I'm gonna follow you good advises and go and try some cabs! Problem is that I'm in Belgium and it's not easy to find good place to try cabs with my head... I'll try the Orange and the Markbass tomorrow or thuesday and I'll let you know what I think about it! And I'll try to go in Germany to try the Mesa Boogie 2x15!

Bassman 135 always a good choice

Hello,
I run My 1981 Bassman 135 into both SWR 410's or SWR 412's.

PEACE AND HAPPINESS TO ALL

AND of course it sounds great into my OEM Sunn 200S with 2 JBL D-140's.

Bassmec is right in that you need a fairly efficient cab. The Bassman 135 has great tone but can easily run out of headroom at a medium gig. IME.
