cab opinions. Eden vs Avatar

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an Avatar 2x12 4 ohm cab, a friend of mine has an Eden 410T 8 ohm and wants to swap.

I'm running a Mesa M-2000, would eventually add another Eden cab either another 410T or 212XLT...maybe.

How is the 410T?, better than the avatar? worse? even trade? don't do it. etc....

thanks for any input guys.

The 410T (I owned one years ago) is the rear ported long discontinued model. Its low frequency response was published to only go down to 80 hz. It is heavier than the Avatar at 90 lbs vs. 74 for the 212 Delta LF (I have that now) and 55 for the 212 neo. If you only play a 4 string you would be okay, but that cab is not known for huge low end. I had an Eden 210XLT at the same time and it obviously went lower.

Having owned both, I would not trade, but I have no idea what your preferences are. The Eden is not a bad cab, just made for different purposes than the Avatar.

no 5 strings (or more) all 4 strings in my stable, I play alot of different things from blues jams, to heavy metal, mostly Metal and Alt. like Tool, Janes Addiction, Clutch, to Slayer, L.O.G., Exodus, etc....

my biggest issue, is my M-2000 is only 4 ohm stable, the Avatar is 4 ohm, but not pushing enough air to compete against the guys I jam with, thought since the Eden was 8 ohm, I could later add another, but would like to start out with a good foundation, instead of having to switch again later.

try out the Eden and see if it does the job for you! I personally don't think it's the ideal cab for you - nor much of an improvement, but ya know...

If you can try the cab with your set up I think that would be the best. To me, the bands that you reference (some of then) may need more cab ability down low, but again, you know what you are after. I traded mine for a 212XLT and was much happier, but I was also playing a 5 string. With that rear port you will need to try to place the cab against/close to a wall so that low end is not lost.

right on, I have it at my house atm, but haven't had time yet, to go through it, I thought I'd see what you guys' opinion was on it.

thanks for the input.

I went the opposite way.
Went from a 212XLT to two Avatar Neo 210 cabinets.

I would definentaly try them side by side but I think that you will end up keeping the Avatar because it is a more well rounded cab and will cut through the mix better.
Keep in mind that the Eden may sound better not in the mix than the Avatar but the real test is with the band.

I have an Avatar 212 and 210 now, and had a 410xlt a few years back. While not the same as your looking at, I thought it was a good cab. Loud, articulate, good sound....but, I thought it had a certain coloring to it I didn't like, and it was 98 lbs. The Avatars, at least to me, are a more baseline cab than the Eden is. What I mean by that is what you send to it is what you get out of it, with not much coloring going on. The weight is the icing on the top.

I play in a classic metal band, and I used these cabs with a GB Shuttle 9. It sounds great, but it wasn't quite cutting thru, and it seemed like I had to really push the amp to its limit just to attempt to keep up...guitarists had a Randall V2(waaay overkill) and the other one was an Engl Powerball. I just picked up a Mesa Bass 400+, and can put those two guys in their place if I need to, lol. Points are, a) the Avatar cabs are great sounding for the money and can keep up very well in a louder band setting and b)don't overlook the fact that you amp might possibly not be able to hang in the situation. Hope it helps!

Before you swap.....Try getting a AVATAR 210 neo cab...I ran both the 2-12 and the 2-10...and WOW a very nice tone and a lot of punch.
Just make sure your amp is not part of tone problem and can take the ohm rating...(I also agree with StJohn)...Good luck with decision.

For the record, I traded my Eden 410T for an Eden 212XLT and I felt that was a good move. I also owned my Eden 212XLT for a while after I bought my Avatar 212 Delta LF - I still own the Avatar. I liked it better even thought it is technically not as nice of a cab. Sure sounds it, though.
