Cab Power Questions

I was wondering how powerful 330watts actually is for a cab, a decent enough power for most normal sized venues and keeping up with guitarists, drummers etc ??

Depends on the specific cabinet. I have up to 900W available to me with my usual configuration. Last gig I looked at the LEDs indicating power output. Only the bottom one or two were lighting. Granted it was a small place but I was using hardly any power at all.

330W should be fine with reasonable cabinets.

So.....noob huh? 330 watts "peak" into a single 10 will get you no where. 330 watts "RMS" into a good 412/810 might get you kicked out of the band IF you use all that power.

It depends on the cab. Watts and decibels are not directly related. Two additional elements, frequency response and sensitivity, must also be entered into the equation.

What amp and cab are you using and/or considering? 330 watts is a pretty specific number so you must have something in mind or already on hand.

if you want to keep up with a guitarists double stack, i think 2 -8x10 cabs is warranted. one 8x10 would work, but i dont think you would be thrilled with it. tell us about what you are battling against. (type of music, guitar amp, your speakers) i am here to try and help, so ask away! johnny a. staind.

Yes, and the sheer number of posts that continually ask the same questions, over and over. Not that there should be any restrictions re: topics, but give me a break already. We used to discuss gear, and applications for this or that, or *tone*- but lately, it's become tedious and boring. Ready to bail soon, not that that in itself is any big deal.

It's sad to me that some of you guys are So hard on the folks whose bass journey is only just beginning. You should be offering personal suggestions, links, opinions, etc...

Don't be So snobby, longing for the days of old in such a melodramatic way. Instead, how about posting a link to something helpful? And if it's just too much for you to handle, you could always choose not to read or post in the thread.

One problem is that the TB home page doesn't have all of those stickies, it just has the most active current threads. So when a noob comes on for the first time with their burning question, they have to realize they should select the correct forum topic, two levels down on the forum topic tree, and then they'll see the stickies/FAQs? Surprisingly it often doesn't happen that way. Instead they just innocently ask their question, a question that's been asked, and answered, 5 times in the last week.

I agree.

Part of being a newbie is learning the ropes.

Some learn faster than others. Some never learn...just like some of our experts.

Guys who pick on noobs should be banned IMO. They hurt TalkBass by driving people away when all they really have to do is ignore the post or take the higher road and actually help and educate others without being jerks about it.

If someone has 1000 posts and still hasn't figured it out is a different story.

I hope we didn't scare off the OP! I think we can come up with a handful of suitable enclosure suggestions with just a little more information.

The 8 X 10 is a killer idea but may be a bit more than what's required. We'll know shortly.
