Cab Problem

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone, I'm having problems getting my rig functional. I have a SWR original Redhead that I'm currently just using as a preamp for a Peavey 215-D cab, but the cab doesn't put out any sound anymore. It randomly clipped in the middle of playing, and it appeared a loose wire was the problem, but even after fixing that no sound will come out of the speaker no matter what the source is. Any advice?

What are you using as a poweramp? You need a power amp to go with a preamp.

I guess what I meant to say is I'm using the Redhead as a head with the speakers turned off, not as just a preamp.

then, how do you have the 215 connected? and are you sure the 215 is functional?

I take it you've isolated the problem to the peavey cab. Redhead works with other speakers and the peavey doesn't work with any amp?

If so look inside the cab for loose wires or a broken jack. That's about all there is in those aside from the speakers. If that stuffs good test the speakers. Might be time for new baskets... and to figure out what fried the old ones before you fry the new ones.

Connect a 9V battery across your speaker cables tip and sleeve connections into your speaker cabinet. You should hear a healthy clunk from the cabinet. If not your cable or cabinet is faulty. Try a different cable - even a signal cable is OK for this test. If still no joy your cabinet needs to be looked at.
