Cab question

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello friends, I recently purchased an Ampeg b-hlf4x10. Its 400w @4ohms. The head im running is a Peavey Pro Bass 500 which runs 500w @ 2ohms 350w @ 4ohms and 200w@ 8 ohms. There is no selector switch for ohms/wattage. My band mates asked me if I could hook up my old 2x15 cab which runs at 8 ohms to my head along with my 4 ohm 4x10 via daisy chain. Is that possible? If so what's the best and safest way. If this is not possible does anyone know of a 1x15 cab that's rated close to 400w and rated@ 4ohms I can use along with my new 4x10. Thanx for the help.

You can safely run your 215 and your 410 with that amp - *I* would run two speaker cables out of the amp, one into each cab - which, circuit-wise is the same thing as daisy chaining - except you're not running all that wattage thru one jack or cable... You can daisy chain if you wish, though...

I would pair up a 215 with a 410 before I'd pair up a 115 with a 410, FWIW... Incidentially - what you're proposing to do is run a 2.6 ohm load thru an amp that's capable of going down to 2 ohms - a prefectly accpetable practice, and shouldn't give you any trouble at all... In this case, the 8 ohm cab will receive 1/3 of the amp's wattage, the 4 ohm will receive the other 2/3 of it...

Hope this helps,
