Is this cab right for my amp?

I'm using the GK MB500. Welcome to Gallien-Krueger: Power to Groove

500 watts at 4 ohms.

I want a cab that sounds good and is easily transportable so I'm looking at this Markbass - Traveler 102P (the 4 ohm version).

400 watts RMS. 4 ohms. 2x10. Nice and small.

This might seem like a dumb question but I'll ask it anyway. Would my 500 watts of power from my amp be going to waste with a 400 watt cab? I don't think it would - I think I'd very rarely need over 400 watts but I just want to see what you all think.

Thank you.

Your head can handle 4 and 8 ohm loads so it'll work with that cab.

Personally, I'd go with the 8 ohm 2x10 cab and then get another one down the road to create a 4ohm load. I don't like my amp having more power than the speakers are rated to handle, as this can cause them to blow.

I completely agree about getting an 8-ohm cab so you can add another later.

The difference in volume between the single 8-ohm cab and the 4-ohm one won't even be noticable, but later adding another 210 will be significant.

Besides, that amp has the potential to easily cause that 210 some damage, especially the 4-ohm version.

Just be sensible. That really applies to any amp/cab combination. If your speakers start to complain, turn down.

+1 get an 8 ohm 210, as you'll find that a 210 alone won't be all that loud, compared to 2 of them. The 4 ohm 210 is useless, as it leaves no room to expand, and won't get any louder than the same cab in 8 ohms.

But the head does 350w at 8 ohms so the 8 ohm cab would be quieter than 4 ohm wouldn't it? Using a 4 ohm cab, the head can do 500watts at 4 ohms. The 4ohm cab is only 400 watts so the max you can get out if it is 400w but the max I could get out of the 8ohm cab combined with this amp would be 350w (amp does 350w at 8ohms).

Would 350watts really be sufficient?

350 watt vs 500 watt doesn't make for much volume difference.

2x10 vs 4x10 does! And if you ever buy a second one and stack them vertically, you'll rock the house!

Definitely get the 8 ohm. You will be kicking yourself later when you want to expand.
