Question Which cab(s) for an Aguilar DB 750?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there, guys!
I play a custom passive 6 String PJ-Bass through an Aguilar DB 750 head and am currently looking for (a) new cab(s) to go with it. At the moment I'm using a 610 Cabinet by german manufacturer FMC, which is pretty good (amazing actually if you consider the price ) but still doesn't do the amp's quality justice.
I'm looking for something to produce a well-defined, yet warm and "round" tone. I ran the amp through an Ampeg 410 cab which sounded fantastic: fat, yet clear bottom end, prominent mids and soft, "singing" treble. But I'm not all to keen on ruining my back by carrying some 90lbs monster around.
My bass teacher owns an Epifani UL-410, which sounds mindblowingly well too. Aguilar's own bass cabs are supposed to sound fantastic as well, but the weight issue spoils the fun here as well...

Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Used a 410UL for many years, but never liked it with the DB750... too wide down low, too attenuated in the mids, and the DB750's EQ points did not line up well to 'fix' the matching issues.

I'm impressed with the Bergantino HS410 with that head. It is a full weight 410, but has a small footprint and good castors that come with the cab, so not too bad unless you have to carry it alone up and down steps, etc. The tone profile is just as you describe... forcefull in the low mids, giving the DB750 a more 'round warm' type low end, smoothe in the upper mids, and a very nice tweeter to extend the range of the tone. Nice box, 4ohms, and it can handle with the DB750 gives it.

The Berg AE410 is lighter, but deeper down low, a bit less low mid punchy, and MUCH more aggressive in the upper mids than the HS410... all differences IMO in a 'bad' direction for the DB750.

IMO, and based only on GTG experience with the 750. However, many positive posts and reviews of the HS410/DB750 combination.

Behringer makes a sweet 1x10 you might want to try out.

Either that or a Berg NV610.

The NV610 is killer with the DB750, but WAY over the OP's weight requirement, so I didn't mention it. Also, he seems to want a bit wider tone than the sealed, one way 610 is capable of (versus the ported, two way HS410). IMO there... and just posting to clarify my recommendation logic for the OP.

My bad, I should have read OP a little closer. NV 610= 100 lbs, but I've been powering mine with a GK MB 500 which actually has become a great Medium/Micro combo. I found it easier tilting back the NV and rolling it than putting my AE410 on a cart in the long run.

But maybe stacking two 2x10 Neo cabs vertically will get the OP a lightweight sound similar to the 4x10?

How about the AE212?
I just think it looks like a mini NV215,
which sounds very good with the DB750, lol

I personally use two Accugroove Tri115L's, both bought used to save $$$, and couldn't be happier. Full round tone that extends deep into the sub lows, yet has a lowmidrange kick that keeps things tight and defined in the mix. I run the DB750 flat and my only consideration is one or two cabs depending on the size of the venue.
