| | | | Cab for Traynor YBA200? Alternative heads?
Sign in to disble this ad
Any personal experience with the traynor? Seems like a steal for the money. Definitely going for some of that all-tube growl in about 200 watts.
And what cabinets would suit this head? I need something small, portable and affordable. (haha...I rhymed)
I was lookin at the Acoustic cabs but they seem to not have much quality control and as much as id like a Ampeg, I'm hoping to go a little cheaper.
Being that I just switched to bass, I'm extremely ill informed on bass amplification.
Thanks

I used mine with Avatar cabs and it sounded good. The Ampeg 610HLF would also be good buy maybe a little large for your needs.

| | | | Well that's two people going with avatar so I'll definitely look into their stuff.
I guess I've decided I don't want anything larger than a 2 x 10 and that's even a stretch.
What do you guys think of 1x15's or 1x12's?

What do you guys think of 1x15's or 1x12's? | Well, my first inclination is to recommend a bunch of speakers in a sealed box (see: Bergantino NV series) but that's pretty much the opposite of what you're looking for in terms of size and price.
Since you're looking for a smaller solution I would look into the Bag End S15-D. It sounds great, it's very efficient, it's compact, and you can find a used one for around $325. I used one of these (and later two) with an Ampeg V4BH (100W all tube) and was very pleased with the results. You can also add another one later on if you decide you need more volume.
You might also check out the Peavey VB-2 head. The price and power is similar to the YBA-200 but he Peavey has a bit more grit readily available.

| | | | I just heard that Traynor is coming out with a new 300 watt tube head soon. Early reports say it's going to be quite something. |

| Any idea when? I'm assuming that's was the only information given, but ill definitely hold out a little if its relatively soon.
Thanks for all the help guys.
You think a 1x12 or 1x15 is loud enough for small venues, practice?

I use mine with 2 GK 4x10SBX, so far I'm loving the tone!
Vinatge, warm, growly. |

| | | | Well I'm thinking a 1x15 or 2x10 and I can always double up later. Ashdowns are reasonably priced, so they're a consideration.
And if the power tubes are different, which the traynor site says, im gonna try and switch em back to the 6550's.

With an Ampeg 610hlf.. it sounds awesome. Full, thick with not too much high end and the low end doesnt overwhelm the cab
With 2 Ampeg 410HEs.. it sounds awesome as well. With these you have to dial off the highs a little and watch the lows that they dont overwhelm em as this amp really has a low end if you're not careful... But very full and driving with the 410s
Ive also used it with a fender 610 pro... very similar to the ampeg 610 but with a bit more low mid growl.
Didnt like it with the traynor matching 210/115 at all!
I also played it thru an Ashdown 210 with an Ashdown 115.. and it really brought them to life... very vintage drive.. (these are up for sale at the moment btw..)...with a nice balanced sound.
mine has kt88s in it btw.. and I may consider letting it go soon.
as a reference i also use a V4B, an Ashdown EVO II, and a Fender 300pro.. and this hangs in there very nicely with em all!
+1 to the comment that these are a great value in tube amps!

| | | | Well moneys kinda of an issue as of the moment but as soon as i can I wanna get this bass rig going. Getting the fretless p-bass together comes first. But if your getting rid of em I would most definitely like to know.
Anybody else have experience with the ashdown cabs?

The ABMs are very nice, but NEED to be driven or else they can sound dull by modern standards, but with the right amp.. they sound quite glorious.

| | | | What do you guys think about the Ampeg SVT 210AV micro classic cab? Its cheap and got SVT on it. But that might not really mean anything.

I haven't found a 112 to be enough for even smaller bar gigs unless you're doing background jazz or run through the PA in a place too small to even mess with that. If I were you, I'd find a 210 I like and get a pair of them, or a single 212 you like and call it a day. You can also cover smallish gigs and rehearsals with a decent 115. Something with good SPL in the lowmids, at least present upper bass that doesn't sound too dark on it's own. Something a little middier/treblier than you might like by itself will likely sound pretty good out front mixed in with the rest of the band. |
