Question Cab Whistle - Anyone plug the unused 1/4" jacks on their cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an Avatar B212 and think it's a great cab. It has a single Speakon and two 1/4" jacks on the input panel. I'm using the Speakon. At anything but low volume I get a lot of air coming out of the jacks and they whistle. Very annoying when I'm practicing alone.

Does anyone plug their unused jacks? How and with what? I don't want to stuff tissues in there lest they get stuck and make the jack unusable. I'm assuming I can just stuff a 1/4" plug with no wire attached in there. Maybe you guys have some other ideas?

Ear plugs! Used to roll up a foam earplug and stick it in the jack in my old Eden 410xlt or 410hlf,
no need to now as Genz Benz are smart enough to have seal their jacks

Great idea, The Fumble! Cheap fix, too. Any other ideas/suggestions are welcome.

+1 big foamies are great for that. too bad they suck for their intended purpose--- at least as concerns someone who desires even an approximation of natural sound.

Earplugs work. It's a common problem with Eden cabs.

Plastic Plugs For 1/4"Jacks

Take a look at this link. You may be able to find these at a hardware store, I wasn't able to, so I bought these online. They are the same type of plug that Eden supplies with their new cabs.

Cover the jack plate on the INSIDE of the cab with compressed fiberglass (It's very good at "slowing" down sound waves), and use the ear plug/electrical tape outside.

If you don't think you'll ever use the extra jack(s), you can remove it and use electrical tape inside and out (still covering inside of plate with glass).

Better still, use the "sealed" plastic jacks. Though cheap, no air leaks

Best is switching to speakon (non-combo) connectors.

First cab I built, I covered inside of jack plate with a "box" - glued and screwed - and caulked hole for speaker wire. Works great! But adds to complexity, and weight, reduces interior volumetric space... Not very practical.
