Congrats on the gift! A Fender 100T is a lot better than socks and a card from grandma!

Or a tie

Or a gift certificate for McDonalds

Or the guitar strings I got for the bass 3 years ago which was a deal because there were 2 extra strings

Or a . . .

At age 63 a Fender 100T is a fantastic gift

I bought the 100T sight unseen...couldn't find it anywhere to try out (I did find a 300 to try however). Also bought 2 matching 1x15's sight unseen. After lugging around an SVT my primary decision was portability and flexibility. 25 watts and a 1x15 is killer. 100 watts and 2-15's is killer too. I played the head through an Ampeg 6x10 and that was great. The single 15's are super light, look stellar and I think they sound really good. I also approached this knowing that an onstage cabinet is really a stage monitor, the sound that goes FOH either comes direct from the bass or from the DI out the amp. I get about a 50/50 ratio with sound guys on that, obviously the DI out the amp gets the Fender tone to the house, rarely do sound guys mike up my rig. Couldn't be happier...

I just purchased a GKNeo 115 for smaller gigs, this is very light at 40 pounds and easy to schlep. It handles the output of the 100T very easily and has a drier, slightly more middy tone with it than the Bergantino cabs. I was unable to source a Fender 115 cab, but was not totally convinced by their other cabs when I tried them with the 100T and much preferred the Bergs.
Tim1, I saw your comment here about a 115 cab for the 100T. I also own the 100T and currently play it through an Avatar B212, but would like something with a punchier, quicker response. Do you think the Bergantino above would fit the bill or do you think the GK 115 would be punchier?

Joemer, I would recommend any Bergantino cab unreservedly as I don't think Jim is capable of making a bad cab but that is just IMO of course. The NV cabs in paricular suit tube heads. I would have to say that I recently did a small gig with the GK 115 neo and the 100T and was quite disappointed when a heavy hitting drummer sat in and the sound became quite indistinct and boomy when I turned it up. I really needed another 115 I felt. Didn't really have the time to muck around much with the EQ. If it was me and I was looking for 15s to match the 100T I would go with two Fender neo 115 cabs (they aren't available here unfortunately), others have reported great success with this mix.

Thanks Tim, I have considered the Fender cabs but was curious as to what others have used and reported on. I have been struggling to get this amp eq'd to my liking with either the Avatar cab. Looking for something that accentuates the Mids and has a quick response. The Avatar just sounds kind of mushy. I play in a fairly toned down 4 piece cover band and the 100T has plenty of volume even at 25 watts but just sounds "slow" to me if that makes any sense. But this is my first all tube amp and I may not be accustomed to the sound yet. Played about 5 gigs with it and still trying to get used to it.

Try using the overdrive channel and use the parametric eq to boost the low mids, but without adding overdrive. Works a treat.

Thanks Tim, just curious, are you saying gain and blend off? Also, how do you set frequency and level to get that low mid punch? I understand this is all very subjective, but this amp kind of has me stumped. Thanks for the suggestions.

Just had a look at my overdrive channel settings from the weekend. This was with a passive jazz bass into my Bergantino NV215 cab (which also has a 6" mids driver and sounds very full range): Gain 8, Blend 3 1/2, Bass 7, Frequency 3, Level 7, Treble 7 1/4. Worked in the bar we were in and for that setup, might be different elsewhere.

Just tried it out with my Rick 4003 and it sounds nice. I just backed off the blend and gain a bit but it really made a difference with the mid settings. Will try it out at my next gig Sat night. Thanks for the suggestion, Tim. Never had this type of mid controls.
