Question Cabinet Growth Spurt Advice

I've got an old crate 2x15 but the guy put two brand new peavey pro 15s in it so it sounds like a new cab. And my amp is the old 70's model peavey 400. It's super loud for only 220w and it can run two 4ohm cabs at once. I love it, i don't care if it's peavey

I've always loved the idea of a 6x10. More than a 4x10 but not a 8x10 that will break my truck.
If I leave my 2x15 and move to a 6x10 what kinda of tonal changes will happen? More/less punch? More/less mids? And how heavy are 6x10's usually?

The genre is kinda hard rock/punk rockish.

I like the old acoustic control 104 6x10. The ampeg 6x10s aren't hard to find but they cost a good bit. I want something bigger but not giant cause we tour in a little truck because of gas prices.

What are your thoughts?

There are no useful generalisations that can be made regarding tone on the basis of speaker cone diameter. Particular drivers inside boxes of particular dimensions with particular port sizes produce particular tones. Cone diameter is far and away the least important speaker parameter (read "makes no difference") as regards tone.

I would say a 6x10 might be a good choice. The only caveat is that a 6x10 often weighs just about as much as an 8x10. It''s not just the cabinet size, its the number of magnets that make them so heavy.
IME Crate cabinets are never that stellar regardless of the drivers involved. Why would SLM (now Loud) build stuff that competes too well with its Ampeg line?

Peavey isnt bad for bass cabs actually. Maybe give them a look.
