Cabinet question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a cab with two twelves in it, with two inputs, one wired to each speaker. I want to wire it up with a switch so that I can use one speaker by itself (an 8 ohm cabinet) or both together (a 4 ohm cabinet).

Does this sound like something that is doable?

If the cab is divided in 2 with a partition so each speaker is in it's own compartment, yes. Otherwise no.

The other questions would be what is it and why?

Sounds like a stereo guitar cab.

Yeah, it's a stereo cab I used to use when I played guitar. It was wired this way because I used some ping pong delay effects. The speakers are each eight ohms. Sometimes I use a 4x10 eight ohm cab and just one of the twelves in the cab with my MB200 which makes it four ohms, but sometimes I would rather just carry the one box instead of this one and the 4x10.

Is that stereo cab with it's GUITAR speakers rated at the freqs necessary to play a BASS through them?

You may need a fire extinguisher or at least a broom to pick up all the flying paper cone pieces if you push it like a BASS cab.

It ain't always about the OHMs, ya know.
