I have recently downsized from all ampeg tube head and a pr810 which I think top'd the scales at 235 pounds! since my back cant take it anymore I picked up a mark bass sd800 and have been looking into a new cabinet ...I like the looks of the markbass cl108 and only 90 pounds ...was looking into their 6x10 but the impedence was not at 4ohms where I want to be so thats out ...the other is the mesa boogie power house 6x10,but the weight is a bit heavy....tired of lugging all this stuff around so the markbass cl108 vs. mesa boogie power house 6x10 which is better sound-construction? like to hear what your thoughts are..Rick |

You do understand that even getting double wattage out of your head only accounts for a +3db gain (barely audible), even if the cab can completely make use of the extra wattage.
The whole "getting all of my wattage out of the head" thing is the wrong way to go about it.

BTW, I'm digging my Markbass stuff. It's the lightest in weight for being such top quality that I could find. IMO, of course.

| | | | I'm not getting why cabinets where the bottom is rated at 56Hz are effective.. thats your A string. Hmmm.
Nevermind, the new 108 HR goes to 40 Hz (E)

You are not hearing the fundemental of the note anyway, you are hearing mostly the second harmonic.

Yes, you are correct with only hearing harmonics with the 10s typically. Instead of going to shops trying cabinets, I've been going to shows lately, listening to rigs. Heard the most beautiful sound yesterday, Avatar 118 under a 210 cabinet, through a GK 450 watt head. No boom. Just pure tone, like a giant piano string.
On the other hand, I did hear an Ampeg 810 a couple of months ago that did a drop D tuned bass justice on the bottom end. But, I've heard several 410s and 412 supplied bass players in the meantime that didn't do it. I too, am searching.

The rest were club settings, no DI or mic'd input.
I'm playing through 10s, 12s and a 115 every week or two, each with its own +-.

| | | | thank you for all the input , I was interested between the 2 cabs... thought about maybe a 1x15 and a 4x10, but i guess i have to try them out first . I like to match the impedence it does not have to be 4ohms ....so back to markbass cl108 or the mesa boogie powerhouse thanks russell 1 for markbass | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
