Question Cabinet Rattling

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey,

I bought an Acoustic B115 Cabinet in Nov of 09.
Has been great until now.
There is a rattling noise coming from the back
inside the cabinet.

I emailed Acoustic and they said to return it
for an exchange to Musicians Friend in MO!!!!!!
The amp weighs 65 pounds!!!!!
That will cost over $50 to ship. No
way in hell I can afford that.
So, my question is if I take the panel
of the back to check it out and
I can't fix it, and I do end up returning it,
will they be able to tell I opened up the cabinet?
I know it voids your warranty if you do any work yourself.
I just can't see spending $50 to ship an amp back
that only cost $200.

Anyone else have this issue?
What could be wrong with it?

You probably have to remove the woofer to gain access. Do it at your own risk, or course, but I would have already been in that cab...
Check the crossover and bracing for loose parts.

Well, I was looking it over and I don't even want to go there.
I spoke with someone at Musicians Friend and MADE them
send me a prepaid UPS return label.
So I am going to return it.
Want a pain.
I use this cabinet everyday!!!
I have the Acoustic head too. I hope it holds up longer then the cabinet did.

You're well within the warranty period. If I were you, I'd give a call to the vendor and see if they have some options, like paying your shipping, or a location closer than MO so you could drive it there yourself.

Musician's Friend is owned by Guitar Center...

Edit: sounds like they're gonna take care of your shipping cost, I hope it doesn't take them too long to get back

I own almost everything Acoustic makes at the moment and can tell you that there are a few unique situations where their cabs seem to have problems, but really don't.

I have had no troubles at all with the B-115, but my B-450 gave me fits, and I went through the usual ignorant script that the 'factory rep' reads too.

They are not a factory rep - they are a distribution warehouse and they don't care if you live or die.

Before this looks like a lynching, I like the Acoustic gear and feel it's highly misunderstood and generally eschewed by pros as too cheap to be any good at all.

OK - your problem is very simple to check out and will NOT void your warranty if you make no physical changes.

The B-115 prolly has the same troubles my B-450 had in that the speaker spade connectors are pretty weak and will let the electrical connections make-break and you think the driver is wasted. It prolly isn't.

The grill is held onto the cab with Velcro and there's a LOT of it!

I'll try to find some pixs of the repair I did, so you can see how easy it really is and you don't have to ship it out and wait for a replacement in the mail.

Here they are:::

NOTE - I THOUGHT IT WAS A LOOSE SCREWS PROBLEM AT THIS TIME, BUT IT WAS THE SPADES THAT WERE BAD!

I FINALLY HAD TO TAKE THIS DRIVER OUT TO REPAIR THE DEFECTIVE SPADE CONNECTORS
