Cable building - does anyone know GK's (2001rb)

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I'm looking for a good speaker cable builder over here (in the UK) that can put a couple of godo quality cables together.

I love my cabs and don't want to change but i'm looking to use the bridged mode my GK2001rb can offer. to do this I'm gonna need a speakon to 1/4 jack cable building of good quality, but more importantly, wired the correct way to make use of GK's bridged mode feature on this amp.

So, does anyone know a good cable builder that knows how GK's bridged mode system works in this amp?

needle in a haystack!

Thanks

Rob

If I'm reading correctly, Page 10 of the online manual says all you need is a 2 conductor speakon cable to run bridged mode (not biamp mode...you would just need a normal 4 conductor speakon to run bridged AND biamped), and not to use a "special" bridged cable, or you will damage your amp. That's good because the cable you need is very common. Bridged mode on that amp must use the speakon connection, so if you insist on using a 1/4" cabinet input, then you just need n off the shelf 2 conductor speakon to 1/4" cable, making sure that the 1/4" pins are wired as it says on page 10. Be default, I think that's how they come anyhow. I would recommend that you upgrade your cab's input to a speakon plug, or even a dual speakon/1/4" plug while you are at it, and just use a cable with speakons on both ends.

Thanks wes, the cabs are custom built and sound awesome, i dont want to swap them for anything else but might be abel to get the builders to swap out to a speakon input?

I'll check, thanks for the info. if thats right it makes it pretty easy if i can just use a normal speakon cable.

If your cabinet didn't come built with a speakon connector, it probably can't handle the power of the 2001 in bridge mode anyways. Just be careful to not blow your speakers

Please do not put a bridged amp into a 1/4" phone plug. In bridge the shell of the jack will be hot with respect to ground. If ANY other ground touches the shell you'll short out one of the channels. Not to mention the shock hazard if you hold the plug. If your cabinet does not have a speakon add one.

Thanks, so its looking like i need to change out the input so ive got a speakon input, and then get a regular speakon cable right?

By the way the cabs are rated 800watts RMS, plenty of power handling.
