Cabs for Ampeg SVT 4 Pro

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all. I've got an Ampeg SVT 4 Pro coming in the post and have an Ampeg 8x10 to run with it. I was wondering if I could also use it with my Trace Elliot 2x10 which is 400 watts at 8 ohms? It would be for practices etc but I don't want to blow the cab up and if the amp is too big for it, will sell it on. Also, since ordering my new amp I've read some horror stories about them overheating and having to drill holes in the side of the flightcase in order to stop this happening. Anyone set my mind at rest... or have any experiences of this? Cheers to anyone kind enough to help.

I used to own an SVT 4-Pro. I would suggest that if you are going to use the Trace cab that you not run it anywhere near full power, and if it starts to sound like it is farting out you should turn down. Ideally you should get a smaller cab (or even just a small combo) to use for practice as the 4-Pro is incredibly heavy.

As for the overheating problem, I have not had it happen to me, but that is because mine lived in a HUGE rolling rack that met the space requirements for proper ventilation. This obviously added tremendously to the weight and space required to transport. As long as you don't shove it into a small rack with no ventilation (IIRC there is a rack somewhere that allows you to remove the side for this) it shouldn't be a major concern. It was an amazing amp, but I eventually had to let it go because of my bad back.

I've got a 4pro and i was thinking of an Ampeg svt-410hlf. But I must sell my bxr100 combo first.

Lightbulb best cab for svt 4-pro

I used to own a 4-pro years ago. Now since the 4 pro had 1200 watts output a 4ohms, I went with the Ampeg PR 410 HLF. That particular cabinet is also rated at 1200 watts. I play 5 string Spectors and Warwicks. When you want to articulate the low frequencies from a low B string, you have to have an abundence of power and headroom. I found that particular combination to be killer. Also, the cabinet has an adjustable high frequency horn.
