Cabs and casters, 2 part question:

For this question the cabs referenced are a 4x10 and a 1x15.

I've pretty much have used the same amp configuration for 14 years and recently upgraded.

1. Is it ok to leave the casters on these cabs and just stack them on their side? Does this alter the sound or harm the cabs in any way?

2. With casters, how is the sound affected if you leave the casters on and have the cab off the ground?

If the tweeter's in the middle on the 410, it shouldn't make any tonal difference. Everybody says port positioning is unimportant, so you should be fine there.

If the 1x15 has a tweeter, you may notice a change in tone by turning it on its side.

I have an Ampeg BSE15T and when I removed the casters--socket type--I got whistling out the holes! My solution: leave the casters in or duct tape the holes.

As for on the ground or on casters, there can be a difference. The word you'll hear is "coupling", as in the floor becoming part of the resonance package. It may be a good thing, or not a good thing, so it's an option to check out at a given venue if you have the time.

Ahh, so coupling being good or bad would depend more on the venue and tastes? Well that's good to hear. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't a "never ever do that" situation...like putting the rig in the shower with you.

Also, the 410's horn is in the middle. Does that mean I could even stand it upside down and there would be no difference at all?

The bigger problem might be the casters rattling if they're not on the floor.

Yes, it'd be fine. You could just put the casters on the side, though, and stack them as you normally do.

Yeah...I thought about that...but that's like one extra step to do when loading in. And I'm lazy...terribly, terribly, lazy.
