Cabs for Mark F1 suggestions

Sign in to disble this ad
Just got a good deal on a used Markbass F1 head.
I sold the only cab i had couple months ago and need some suggestions on a cab.
Looking for something light and portable. I did some searching on here and found out 1x12 x'2 is probably the best light rig but I also found a used markbass traveler 10x2 for $450.00
Anyone with experience on this head have any other suggestions?
Looking for just 1 cabinet at the moment and will get a 1x15 cab later on for the deeper tones.

The cab that suits your needs is going to depend on whether you want to preserve the aggressive tone of the F1 or not.

I myself never liked the inherently bright tone of the F1, so found myself drawn to using it with more colourful cabinets, like the relatively deeply-voiced, somewhat scooped GS112 by Aguilar. That dark cabinet yielded a more neutral tone with the bright F1, and, in my mind, a more useable one for me.

The Markbass Traveler 102 is the worst cabinet I have ever owned. I would not recommend that. It is congested, nasally and without much low-end extension and a very brittle high-end.

That said, I am sure Ken is going to chime in and recommend his picks: the Schroeder 115L+ and the Bergantino AE410 (if you are also considering larger cabs).

I just got rid of a 120lb rig and I want something lightweight.
I was looking at the GS112 and found that I can get one for about $300-$350 shipped here which is not that bad at all. Thanks for the input on the Markbass 102.
Oh one other thing I drive a 350z and my wife has a toyota solara. So Im trying to find something that can fit in the back trunk of the Z or the passenger side foot space

You might check into a Bergantino AE210. It is very thin front to back, so should fit nicely, and has a bit more oomph than a single 112. Very nice with the F1 (if you like it tight and a bit bright... per the post above). Lightweight, high quality (although you need a cover.. the spray on finish is a bit fragile).

The 800hz centered upper mid control is a wonderful thing with the Berg AE cabs... it can just smooth out that aggressive upper mid beautifully and make them quite fat and warm. Nice combination to my ear, and really impessive regarding size/weight/low end/volume.

+1 to that particular MB 210 also... very small, very light... but it sounds that way also.

Again this fallacy turns up. Just because a driver has a bigger cone does not make it any more capable of reproducing low notes than a smaller sized cone.

I use the F1 with the Markbass traveler 2x10 and like it quite well. I also use it with the Markbass fron ported 4x10. I am using passive Fenders (P or J depending on what is needed) and find it the 2x10 be sufficiently deep and well defined for the smaller rooms I use it in. I don't find it overly bright at all. I normally run the EQ flat with a touch of VLE as needed.

I'm sure other small light weight cabs will sound great as well, and may be more to your liking, but wanted to offer an alternative report on my experience with this cab.

The F1 pairs nicely with the Epifani UL310. I have an early version of this widely voiced box. The F1 adds a little low mid eveness and actually sweetens the top end some. This combination works for a lot of different musical styles too.

Check out Quad's thread "Getting More Compliments than Ever..." or something like that.

F1 + UL310 = awesome (just be sure to get the series one version)

There is one for sale right now on the TB classifieds.

Other than that two 112s stacked....

Hey bro,

I drive a G37 so I feel your pain. The Berg AE210 and Markbass 102P are the ONLY cabs on the market that will fit BARELY in the trunk. Believe me I've tried everything.

As far as the 102P, I was very worried that I would sacrifice tone for portibility but in my case, I simply have not. It may be the voicing of my bass/ amp combo (Roscoe 5 through a Mesa M6) but this little cab has some balls. I turn the horn down to about 25%, cut my treble on the bass a bit and I get smooth, glassy highs, cutting mids and deep tight bass.

Recently gigging with a Dave Matthews cover band, I copped a very believable Stefan Lesard tone that just cut through the dense mix while still sounding like a bass.

Give it a try, I was suprised.
