Cabs to pair with a Mesa 400+

Sign in to disble this ad
So I am starting to save up for that "dream" setup everyone is looking for and have decided on a Mesa 400+ head... But I still don't know what cab configuration to shoot for. I saw a thread a couple days ago that got me thinking a good route would be Mesa Powerhouse 2x10 (8ohms) with a 4x10 (4ohms), the 2x10 for practice and one or both for a gig. But then I saw a thread that was saying a matching pair of cabs is the best way to go ... any input on any cab configuration and even any brand is greatly appreciated. Just looking for ideas here, thanks.

Diesel 215. I believe these were made for each other like no other combo.

I would love to get a 215 but it's just too big for me to be able transport... I had an Ampeg 810 but had to get rid of it for the same reason. 4x10 is about as big as I can reasonably go in my situation.

I played my 400+ with a Bergantino NV610, and it was a match made in heaven. Absolutely killer combination.

The 610 was about 98 lbs and you could tilt it back like an Ampeg fridge, and it is arguably easier to move and transport than many 4x10's.

Something about traditional sealed cabinets going well with tube amps.

Also, do you require a modular setup? Meaning do you NEED a 2x10 for rehearsal and a 4x10 for medium gigs and both for bigger gigs? If so, then you answered your own question.

If you're looking for a single cabinet solution, I think there are better options than a Mesa Powerhouse 4x10.

Get 2 Diesel 115s and stack'em. Easy to transport and sounds like nothing else.

+1 if a Deisel 215 is too big, get 2 Deisel 1x15's. A match made in heaven, without doubt.

I think your first idea sounds pretty good. Since equal amount of power will be given to all the speakers, you are effectively obeying the "same cab type" rule.

Matched up with 2 Mesa fifteens is the sound of a war hammer.
