Cabs on wheels

Sign in to disble this ad
Just noticed that when I'm with the band in practice I cant hear my bass on the other side of the room. Just recently when loading my rig back in the our practice room after a gig, I left the cabs on the hand cart so I could move them around the room. Well the bass was booming all over the room. When they are sitting on the floor, not so much. How does raising the cabs 2 inches higher on a cart make them so much louder? Hmmmm.

Probably because it's 2" closer to your ears, and your hearing things a little better.

Did you set them in the exact same spot as before? Were you standing in the exact same spot as before? Was all the other equipment in the exact same spot as before? Were your tone settings the same as before? Positioning of both sound source and listener as well as boundries be they walls or stacks of other equipment has a lot to do with response.

Yes, thats why I was amazed at the sound. I know that the bass is not always heard in its entirety at certain points in a room, I'm fine with that as long as I can here myself.
Some of the songs we do require heavy E string bass and it has to join with the bass drum to get the right thump and punch. I usually set up next to the drummer but he is behing a plastic partition in our practice room. I would love to be able to setup on a hardwood floor. I find it sounds great to me as well as around the entire room especially in the back.
I always have had wheels on my 2x15 cabs but not on the 2x10's I have now now. I will leave the cabs on the hand cart at the next gig and see how that sounds. Sorry about getting long winded here.
