Calling Experienced EVM 15L users. Need dating advice! Mesa Content

Got a line on a powerhouse 215 EV cab, which did originally come with EVM 15L's in it. asked the guy to take a picture of the back of the speakers for ID'ing purposes, but its not stamped the same way as the EVM 15L I have now, and Im having a hard time finding info on it.

Any help is appreciated!

They do look like EV baskets to me, not black widows.

The cage and speaker look identical to this one here:

Someone else on a different forum claimed they had a Mesa powerhouse loaded with these same mystery speakers:

I don't know what's going on here.

I know in the 90's Mesa was getting custom OEM EV's that didnt have an EV logo. For a while I am pretty sure they didnt have a Mesa sticker either.
Also, and this is crazy, the actually had EV make Force series cones with the bigger EVL magnets.
These will look like EVM/EVL but with a different rib pattern on the cone.
The label says neitehr 649 or 812, which are codes I associate with EV.
Also, the round port 2x15 were only made a coupel of years in teh mid 90's I think. After the shelf port and before the tri-port cabs.

Thanks for the info. I have a call into Mesa Petaluma and an email into warehouse guitar speakers who produce a similar looking speaker (see link above) to try and sort this out. The one thing that makes me think they are original (whether they are EV's or not) is that not only were they screwed in, they were glued and double stick taped in as well. When I get to the bottom of this (unless someone chimes in who has more knowledge) I will report back with my findings from Mesa. Mykk has been helpful in our communications so far, didn't know he was a tber before I emailed him regarding his craigslist post. We'll see where this goes

Yes this is very true. I had Mesa EVM's in two of their sealed cabs. They were all OEM speakers with no labels.

You could buy 'em that way from MCM and a few other places back then as well. The one in the OP doesn't look like any E-V I've ever seen though. The terminal location and the recesses in the top of the support legs are a new one on me if it's actually an E-V. Also, are there only six legs?

Thanks for the info. I haven't found any correlation between the numbers on the speaker and EV, but its possible that that UPC is from the seller and not the manufacturer I guess? I may just have to have Mykk bring the cab over my place and a/b it to my diesel 1x15 and see whats up. Hopefully Mesa will get back to me in a timely manner.

So it is entirely possible for this round port Mesa cab to have come with these blank EVM style speakers?

Do you see any numbers printed on the back of the cone itself?
I see EIA codes there more often than on the magnet.
The sticker is more than likely a manufacturers SKU or some other info that is only useful to Mesa or EV. On some drivers the EIA code is printed/stamped on the "legs" of teh frame.

Fender also had EV15 speakers with the Fender logo on them:

Mine has a code 79842 on the cone. I ound that same number on the 'net on another site: someone had an Acoustic cab with an OEM EV15 in it as well and it had the same cone number.

From mesa rep-

"Hey there-
Yes, these are 16ohm EV speakers- no doubt."

"Thanks for the response. Didn't know EV made EVM 15L's in 16ohms, is that the correct model number for the speaker? Trying to avoid any 15B's which were a terrible replacement for the 15L's.

Thanks for your help."

"they were made exclusively for us."

Sounds like they aren't evm 15l's

personally I think the custom OEM EV's were Mesa and EVs attempt to make an SRO/EVM hybrid. It seems like they focussed more on the midrange character than the low end.

That is how this cabs sounds. It is mid voiced with clear highs. I use it with my Fender PRO 810 and the 2x15 fills in a sonic gap that is left open by the 810

Before I saw your post, I had the same thought. Those aren't EV frames, that's for sure.
