Can Anyone Recommend a 12" Speaker to use in my cutom cabinet?

Have a 2x12 cab that I built in the style of an Aguilar DB212. I had Eminence Basslite 2012s in it at one time, but wasn't using the cab much and sold the speakers. I didn't really think the the Eminence Basslite speakers sounded all that great though so was wondering what speakers others may recommend. I am also debating on whether or not to install a HF driver. I have the place for one in the, but right now it's just used as a port, giving the cab 3 ports instead of two. If I do put a HF driver in, I would want to also install a HF attenuator as well, but don't know where to find one. Any suggests would be appreciated!

Oh boy . Drivers have to be matched to the cabinet using the driver's Thiele/Small specs for best result. You can't just throw cabs and drivers together and just expect it to sound good. Do a forum search on "winisd".

Also research Thiele/Small parameters and see why your first try didn't work so well.

It's pretty important to get the ports tuned correctly. Leaving an open hole in the cab where a tweeter was supposed to go is extremely unlikely to be a step in the right direction. If that's how you had the cab configured with the Basslites in there, no wonder you didn't like them.

If you're more worried about cost than weight, the Eminence Delta Pro 12a is a good mid-priced woofer. If you are worried about weight, consider the Deltalite 2512. And seal up that tweeter hole.

And seal up that tweeter hole.
Wont it help to allow the woofer to "breath!?"

Yeah I've been looking a bit at the Delta Pro 12a, sort of leaning that way. I think I would really rather find a good tweeter but am not too clear on crossovers, have some moe researching to do there. I do see that Aggy actually sells their speakers (which are eminence) and tweeters.

I know nothing about cabinet designs but from what I've read the cabinet should be designed around the speaker's specifications. Building a cabinet and then trying to find a suitable speaker seems the reverse process to me. But again... I know nothing.

You know more than you give yourself credit for. That's just how it should be done.
