Sign in to disble this ad
.. if the bass is standing right next to it (by its side, not in front of it)?

I have a mesa boogie 412 powerhouse cabinet if that helps...

strange question maybe but still want to know the answer..

are you saying this because the cabinet is isolated and the magnetism of the speaker do not affect the battery or what? i really would like to know.

Don't leave a cable plugged into the output jack of an active bass...that drains the batteries.

Sitting it next to anything does not.

if your bass is plugged even when you are not playing it that drains the batteries!

I don't think it would be close enough to the magnet for it to really be a problem.

Um, no. Magnetic fields fall off quickly: http://www.ehow.com/about_5449847_fast-magnets.html

"...magnetism decreases as the cube of the distance. This means that the influence of most magnets is only a few inches."

See also: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...1133458AAFoxEY

(Can magnetism drain batteries?)
"If the magnet is an electromagnet powered by the battery, yes.
If you use a conducting magnet to short-circuit the terminals of a battery, yes.
If the magnet is strong enough to physically deform the battery, yes.
Otherwise, it's likely to have no effect."

yeah, that's something to be really concerned about, seeing as how a battery can cost upwards of $2.50. hey, my grandpa has a pacemaker. should he stick to only piezo pickups?

having a bass die in a middle of a gig because of a battery is not worth it, that is why i asked.. and only my musicman battery can be switched fast enough, otherwise i have to take lots of screws
out and ten put them on again.

but it seems i am fine so thanks to all of you

The electronics in my basses draw little current from the batteries. Most have 18V supplies. I find it easiest if I change all my batteries every time the clocks go forward or back. i've never had one go dead in the middle of a gig. There's always a pack of fresh batteries in my cable tote.

just change your battery every 6 months and you'll be fine.

Greetings from the North,

And never leave a 412 in your car overnight. Car batteries even cost more. Just kidding...... The magnets wil not drain energy from your active bass battery. Now recording tape........

Batteries Are chemistry based. They do not get drained by magnetism. Whoever told you that doesn't know what he's talking about.

Not to worry...the microwave ovens will do him in first.
