Can I pull the head out of my combo amp and attach it to a cab?

I'm really tight on money right now and I need a louder sound. I have a fender Rumble 100 combo amp.

My idea is basically this.

1. Take the amp apart and remove the head.

2. Build a case for the head out of plywood.

3. Plug the head into a 4x10.

I love the sound of the rumble so I would be getting the best of both worlds.

Is this possible? If so is there any wiring I need to do?

i've done it before... if you are decent with woodworking it's not a big deal. I used several coats of paint on truck bed liner instead of tolex or paint. Get some cab corners and handles to complete your build. Make sure to leave vents in the head if there were vents in the combo.

If there is an extension speaker jack then you don't need to wire one in like the duke said. Make sure you tape up the wires going to the old speaker though so they don't short. If there's no ext speaker jack you'll need to solder one onto the wires going to the combo's speaker. Make sure you get the polarity right- look at which wires are the + and - at the speaker before you unsolder them. Ideally you should put the speaker jack in the back panel of the amp, most amps have a space where you can drill a hole and screw in a jack. Be careful- don't drill into the amp and get wires twisted in the drill bit! Make sure to clean out all shavings or something can short inside the amp. Don't ask me how I learned that lesson.

All I see of use is a line out with a connector for one of these.

Could I plug a cab into that?

No. Well you could, but it won't make any sound. You have to disconnect the wires from the internal combo speaker and wire them to a jack you'd have to mount somewhere in the back of the amp. Then use a regular speaker cable to go between that new jack and the input of the cab.

Wiring an external speaker jack would probably be less work than ripping the combo apart and building a box - plus it would be easier to resore to its original condition.

once you have known facts like the included speaker's impedance, the amp's minimum load, series and parallel and series parallel wiring schemes-- it's all good if the equation still works, and you aren't exceeding the mechanical properties of whatever enclosures, circuits, speakers, etc. I think there's no good reason that if your combo has a 4 ohm speaker, then a switching jack wired into the speaker output can give you the option to use your combo as is or with any 4 ohm setup, since plugging into the jack will disconnect the internal speaker. get detailed diagrams first.
