Can I turn this into a something useful

I have an old VOX Kensington amp. It is the same as the one in this link. http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/5831559.

This site says the measurements are 9.75" x 24" x 9.5". It has an amplifier section and a 15" speaker.

This amp works but does not do anything at a useful volume.

I know I can turn it into some cash, but what I would like to do is use this in some way because it is in good shape and cool looking.

Would it be worth it to fit it with a new lightweight 15" neo speaker and one of the new micro bass heads?

Any ideas on a speaker that would turn this into a usable cabinet. My guess is the internal volume is going to be to little to really do any good but I know there are some good speaker builders on this site that may be able to set me in the right direction.

You could certainly turn that into a decent cab for smaller gigs. It won't produce a ton of low end, but would probably sound decent with a speaker upgrade.

You'll definitely want to put a back on it though. Completely open like that you'll blow the speaker in about 5 minutes. You could probably add a port to the front, that will help with the lows a bit. Check with Bill Fitzmaurice, he could tell you exactly what size port would be best with that cabinet size.

Thanks.

That is not my amp in the picture. The one I have is in better shape and has a back. I will send him a pm and see what he says.

I think this would make a cool combo with something like a Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 or something similar built into it where the controls are at the top.

Those measurements you gave (9.75" x 24" x 9.5") don't make sense,just by looking at the photo. Maybe 19.75"W x 24"H x 9.5" D.?

Even at 19.75" W., internal volume is less than 2 Cu ft. You would need to port it somehow. If no room on the front, then port it at the rear.

Why not just have it fixed? Certainly it does not have much in there for circutry that someone local to you could not fix it up and take care of that problem with the upper volume. I know I had the Essex 20 Watt and I loved it. It had a volume and tone knob, nothing else!

Leave it alone. Keep it as a testament to how bad bass amps once were. Or, turn it into your dream. I think it has potential. Time to get your McCartney licks down.

Well that is what I get for trusting a website. It was late and I just copy and pasted the size without thinking about it.

I just measured it and the outside dimensions 21" wide x 26" tall x 10.75" deep. I am assuming 1/2 inch wood here. The internal volume could be close to 3 cubic feet.

The amp now as it sits is functioning the way is should. Sounds cool at low volume. It just starts to break up if used at band levels. So unless someone were to offer me a good price for it, I would like to make it something useful to me.

Maybe I will put it up in the for sale section and see if anyone is interested in a classic amp before I hack into it and make it a 300-500 watt combo with a nice neo 15".
