Can I use my combo amp still?

Sign in to disble this ad
I am to receive a G-K Backline 600 amp and G-K GLX 4x10 cabinet for Christmas. I currently have an Acoustic B200 combo amp and wondered if it could still be useful. I am fairly new to playing but am totally addicted, less than a year playing but practicing 1-2 hours a day now. My question is can the combo amp be used for the lows if a crossover was used with the mids and highs going to the 4x10 or would I even want to do something like that? Just curious if it would be beneficial or not. Thanks for the replies.

The 4x10 and head has more power on tap and more cone area (speaker area.) If you were to biamp, you would want that running the lows. However, there is no need to biamp. Running OD or effects to the Acoustic and clean signal to the GK could be very cool!

dont bi-amp- get an A/B box that has a "both" option/switch (this means you can kick in amp A, amp B, or both) and have a good time!

Yes you'll find your combo will still come in handy after you join a band. You'll have 2 amps so you can leave one at the rehearsal studio and still have something to play at home. Its also nice to have a combo around for playing small low volume gigs.

If you wanna try playing both amps simultaneously theres several options:

You could plug your bass into an ABY box that would have 2 outputs to connect to each amp.
Or you could achieve this with a simple Y-cord from radio shack.

You could also link 2 amps by plugging a guitar cord in-between your first amps Effects send jack and the second amps Effects return jack. (If either amp wasn't equipped with Effects loop-jacks, you could substitute the first amps Preamp-out jack. At the second amp you could substitute and use its normal input jack)

Thanks for all the great input, I will listen and apply. The effects option sounds like a winner. I will have to try that out.

If you have a Sansamp bassdriver, you can run the affected signal out to the GK and the unaffected signal out to the Acoustic for a killer stereo rig.

Other than that, I would NOT sell the Acoustic amp because you have to have two working amps if you want to play out. In my case, with two bands no less, I was able to leave my rehearsal amp at the guitar player's house, which is very convenient. If my main GK amp broke down, I just tell him to haul my rehearsal amp to the gig! See how convenient that is for me? hahaha
