Can someone walk me through speaker check?

Sign in to disble this ad
Got my cab opened up in front of me. GK SBX plus 410

Buzzing coming from top right speaker

No obvious problems with the cone itself

When I gently/evenly push down on the speaker there seems to be no scratching or rubbing at all

While taking it apart I found one of the mounting screws holding the speaker in place was broken off. Could something this small be the problem?

I know next to nothing about this cab because I bought it off cl for 75 bucks

Should I
A) Go ahead and put it all back together and see if the broken screw was the problem or

B) proceed to a more in depth inspection of the speaker since I've already got it out

I've found so much useful knowledge from this forum. Thanks in advance!

Well, since you have it out, of course it is best to replace the screw AND check out the speaker and the cabinet! Be sure that something inside is not hitting the cone and that there is not something else loose inside.

For $75 you can afford to do a lot of testing.

Good Luck.

Also check that the wiring to the speakers don't actually touch the back of the speakers. I had this happen once, and the slight buzz was soooooo annoying . . . easly fix to twisty-tie the cabling so there's not too much slack.

Success!!!!!! Works like a dream!!!!! Replaced missing screw. Tightened up the rest. Wouldn't have thought something so small could make such a huge difference!

I think there was one of the wires rattling around where it shouldn't have been compounding the problem. I tidied everything up with some electrical tape just to be sure. Thanks for the advice guys.
