Question Can speaker config affect string output balance?

Sign in to disble this ad
When i play with a 4x10 cabinet G and D strings are louder than E and A. But if i check the balance in my PC with the bass direct to Nuendo its fine, even the E a little loud...

The question:
Every 4x10 cabs rise up the treble freq creating that percieved unbalance or is just THAT cab (Hartke)???

I would just adjust your pickups to suit your 410 cab the best. Your computer might be giving you a true even response but your bass cab has to move alot more air so might need your pickups adjusted to suit that. I find i have to re adjust my pickups for even a different type of string.

When you use the computer are you judging by the visual of the waveform?

There is actual volume and percieved volume, the waveform will only show the actual volume where you ears will give you the percieved volume. I find the percieved volume to be more important!

The problem is more likely the set up on the bass.

The innate Eq of your cabinet can DEFINITELY affect string balance. But your answer is pretty much to set up through your live rig

The room will have a huge effect. Where the cab is relative to walls and ceiling. Where you stand. Don't assume it's a problem with the instrument.

That's why you have EQ on the instrument and the amp...use it.

Yep it could be a few things like....
Pickups
Room
Cab tune
Speaker selection.
Even the point that Rick made about where you stand.Last nite i was jamming in my room & depending on where i stood i could hear more or less bass & treble freq.So it may be the pickups but try the cabs in a different setting.
