cant get my high notes to cut through on orange crush 50 in rehersehal

Sign in to disble this ad
today was the first time i played my ibanez through my orange crush 50 amp at band practice and noticed that the higher notes couldn't cut through when we were playing, what would i need? a compressor? EQ pedal (as the orange EQ isn't too adjustable)? or both?

What cab are you using? Usually boosting the mids helps cut through, but it might not be loud enough depending on the overall level of the band.

The Crush is a combo. 50 watt into a 1x12 if i remember correctly.

Edit: Rob beat me to it

not enough power, my friend. assuming you're trying to cut through a drummer and guitar at room volume

Methinks that instead of looking into a pedal to solve your problems, you might want to look at amps. I don't know what type of music you play with your band, but chances are pretty good that your 50 watt practice amp is not going to cut it, period.

I don't have any experience with Orange Amps (and not sure how much voicing pertains to Orange practice amps), but isn't Orange really known for it's muddy tones (meaning you aren't particularly going to dial in slicing highs as that is not what the amp is designed to be capable of).

Other than that, as mentioned above - try adjusting mids, try tilting your amp, or even putting it on a stand of sorts so that YOU can hear yourself better.

Other than that, I don't really think any pedal is going to solve your problems.

headroom is headroom. either your lows or high won't cut through, it doesn't matter. it means u don't have enough wattage in most cases.

you can try tilting it, or putting it up on a stand, but the lack of highs could also just be a characteristic of the amp and it only having 50 watts.

A very good piece of advice here. Mids and highs are directional and if your amp is pointing at your ankles, you're not going to hear the higher frequencies as clearly. Try pointing the speaker towards you and your band mates' heads and see if it helps.

+1 tilt it up, or raise it somehow, but the bottom line is, you're asking alot of a 50 watt 1x12 combo.

By modern day standards a 50W amp feeding a single 12 is more of a bedroom practice amp than a giggable unit. I'm with Ricky - you are expecting too much from a toy. Sorry.

You say your low notes are cutting through but not your high notes, it sounds more like a problem with your bass than your amp.

^^^ Truth. Sorry.

The best thing you can do in the short term is put the amp up on a shelf, pedestal, file cabinet, or whatever it takes to get the amp up at your ear level. Hang it from a rope if you have to. Pretty much the only way you're going to hear yourself decently with that little thing, competing with other instruments, is if you get it up near your ears.

Don't buy a compressor for this purpose, it's just not the right tool for the job.

That's irrelevant information.
