Can't sell my Ampeg SVT-II

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm not in a big rock band anymore and have a gorgeous SVT-II (non-pro) sitting in man-land. I'm trying to get myself to sell it but just flat-out can't do it. Am I hoarding or is this something that I'll regret selling years from now? My gut says "both".

Hang on to it.. you never know what the future holds.. A lot of things go obsolete in gear-land, but theres always a place for one of those..

If you had a gorgeous 64 1/2 Ford Mustang would you sell it because you don't drive as fast as you used to? I want my SVT II Non Pro to hold the lid shut on my casket. Nuff said.

After Skynet becomes self aware, and it programs the machines to annihilate all human survivors and destroy everything else on the planet by 2025, all that will remain will be Ampeg SVT-II non-pros.

Having failed to destroy these indestructable amps, the Cyborgs then incorporate them into their daily lives, providing thick bass tone for the millenia.

The likelihood of finding another 2 nonpro is not great without a lot of patience, and for what you'd be able to sell it, I think it's totally worth keeping.

Great advice guys and I especially appreciate those words from an Ampeg endorser. Looks like a keeper!

The question: have you given up playing for good. If playing in a band has lost its interest for you then sell the amp and use the cash for stuff that does interest you.

that said, I was in the process of selling all my gear 'cause the thought of playing another classic rock gig sickened me. Then, on a whim, I looked in the local want ads and hooked up with a blues jam band. It's been many years since I've been as happy with a bass in my hands. My avatar was taken at one of these shows.

Edit: I had forgotten how wonderful playing my fretless six really is.

If you have to ask, you are not ready. I fired up my old V4B twice a year for 6 years, just to keep it healthy.
Came down to this for me: 1) Tons of people want one and may not find one to own. 2) Is it really that important to me that no one else gets joy from it just so I can look at it and say I own one? I had moved on from my all tube "cork sniffing" (easy tube snobs, after 40+ years of gigging, recording and touring I have earned the right to my opinion).
If or when you are ready to let go......you'll know.

Mustang Sally for me! Mind you every time you start that tune the dance floor fills!

The blues jam is at the White Swan on the Danforth opposite Jones. Come on down any Thursday night and say hello!

I am in the same place as the original poster. I have an SVT-II from 1990 that I haven't even played louder than at home practice level, for more than two years. I have a couple of 200 watt all tube heads as well, that are more than I need.

But sheeeeeeeeeeesh! with the tight money today, and the trend toward micro heads, it just doesn't seem worthwhile to sell. I see people struggle to get more than $800 for these in full working condition. On Ebay, a new looking SVT-300, which is the power amp only/slave version of this, (and rare to find anywhere for sale), would not even get a single bid on an auction that opened at $800, just about a week ago. There are a lot more SVT-IIs available used these days than I have ever seen....such a buyer's market.

Yet new SVT-II pros and SVT Classics sell (or maybe they don't sell) for around $1600, at Guitar Center.

You're not hoarding and you might regret it one day....or you might not. If you really didn't want it, there'd be no issue. If it comes down to either keep the amp or feed the kids, by all means, sell it, otherwise, I'd sit on it for a while, see what you think later.

Regret is a state of mind. Make your decision and proceed forward.
