| | | The cabinet looks like MDF, I'm surprised by Ashdown
Skip the squirt gun or the cabinet will dissolve
Have the cats rip off the rest of the carpet off the cabinet and duratex it.
Hardware stores around here sell what appears to be pretty close to the same as as duratex, just in more colors and sold as deck paint.

We even have a few of those cardboard things laying around for them but the female often sneaks over and tries to tear up my Epi cab and it's in a padded cover. I squirt gun liberally.
Do pet stores sell vials of Eau de Doberman?
Heat gun, scraper, sand, and duratex.

A quick search of the interweb confirms that you must be sure to seal it with an oil-based primer. http://www.finewoodworking.com/how-t...nting-mdf.aspx

| | | | I built a big scratching post about 4 and a half feet tall with a platform on top so my cat can look out the back window where the squirrels play. He's learned to shed his claws on that instead of anything else. I'm not sure how much luck I'd have with six of them.
Duratex is what you want, but it'd make for a mighty uncomfortable sofa.

| | | | Got a Fender Tweed Bass Case for Christmas, SMFR, $249.00. It was on sale for $139.00. I got it for $69.00. Nice case with real tweed fabric all over it. Got three cats. My new bass cases home is in a closed closet!!! A cat could reduce my great deal to garbage in a heart beat! I love the beasties, but cats can be dicks sometimes. lol

Seriously, we have cats too. You definitely need a tall, rope-covered scratching post. They love those and will direct their attention to that first of all goes well.
Secondly, you can put some adhesive-backed sticky carpet cover on your amp temporarily until they learn. they hate the feel of this crap and will start ignoring it!
Last, put squirt bottles everywhere and fire at them whenever they get close... |

Kitties are delighted to sleep on the towels. We are all happy with this arrangement, plus they have a couple of scratching posts in other rooms.

When I was a kid, we tried to cure the cat from scratching the furniture by throwing it outside when it did. SO, whenever the cat wanted to go out, it scratched something and ran to the door.... Who trained who?
I keep the door to the music room closed when it isn't in use. YMMV

When you're satisfied that one area is done, put the double sided carpet tape on it to encourage them to work on other areas. Don't work harder, work smarter!

I have cats. All my cabs used to be carpet-covered. I replaced all the cabs with tolex or duratex covered material. You want your cats? Change your cabs. That's the price of being a pet guardian. |

I've owned a lot of cats over the years, and none of them have liked plastic. I got sort of lucky in that only 2 of my cats like my cabinets. Buying them a sisal rope-covered post helped, but if there's a carpeted cab handy, they'll use it. My third cat doesn't touch my cabs and since she has her own room (the other 2 terrorize her), I store the cabs in there. She prefers to scratch horizontal surfaces and loves her sisal mat, which sits on top of a shower curtain-covered 210.
