Carpet stuff for Cab

Sign in to disble this ad
I don't know the correct terminology, but I recently acquired a used Hartke 4X10 Traveler. It sounds great but the carpeted covering is just nasty. It look's like it was recovered from the aftermath of Katrina, then a dog rolled around on it, after it went through an airport luggage handlers convention.

So I need to replace it, but where do I find that stuff, whats it called and how much should I expect to pay to cover a 4X10 box?
Thanks

I think its just generic speaker carpet. Or tolex.

You could call up Fartke and see what they can do. I heard their customer service is brilliant.

Amp repair and configuration issues go in Amps, not Setup

Just because it came with carpet covering originally, doesn't mean you have to replace it with that. There are other options, including tolex and truck bedliner.

I was looking at some Tolex options earlier today. The Snake Skin Tolex looks dead sexy.

If I had a carpeted cab and there was an excuse to re-cover it in something else, I would take it in a second.

I just did that: an Avatar 2x10 with the ratfur in awful shape. I have a 1x18 that's been around the block more than a few times, NTM doing duty as a de-facto cat scratching post, which will be my next project, when I get the right fluid needle/tip for my HVLP gun, so I can spray the Duratex

I'm in love with the tolex from mojotone.com http://www.mojotone.com/amp-parts/Tolex-and-Tweed

ALso consider duratex for a durable tectured paint finish - Duratex Roller Grade Trial Size Kit - Black - ACI Acry-Tech Coatings, Inc. <--they're having a pretty good special now that would be perfect for your cab.

Ha, I am learning a little about the MIPS processor right now in my BCS program at CCSU, but I digress!

Duratex is the way to go. Once you've had it on one of your cabs you'll never go back - that is, if you gig regularly or carry your gear around.

If you just leave your gear at home or in one place, tolex is fine - but if you move it around it WILL get torn. The carpet is more durable but always looks a bit ratty especially compared to a duratex or Line-X finish.

I've used this product with great results...

If you recover your cabinet (rather than go the recommended bedliner route), make sure you paint a black line where each seam will go and use a very sharp knife to cut the carpet (I use a No. 1 X-acto with a fresh blade (or two) for each recover). You could even spring for a new set of corner protectors (also available from Parts Express) to make the cabinet really look like new.

Answering one of the original questions...some people use ozite for cab carpet. Ozite is the stuff that your car trunk is carpeted with and can usually be found on rolls & sold by the yard at Home Depot and similar.
