Carrying your rig for a good distance...

I'm looking at 15" of snow on saturday which means parking at the end of the driveway to get out. Problem is my driveway's about a 1/4 mile long of gravel. I have an audition so I need to be able to get my amp to the car.

Acoustic B100 Combo. Weighs rougly 40lbs.

What I have in mind is putting some straps on it and wearing it like a backpack I'm just not sure how to go about this.

Any one have any suggestions?

p.s. I wouldn't mind throwing it over my shoulder but I'm afraid if I do might slip and drop it in the snow.

No, but it sounds funny. Can you take a pic?

I have the B200 very nice combo (kinda heavy in these class "D" times we live in)

When I was 15, I was playin guitar in a band. We practiced about 3 miles away from my house...all down hill except the very last hill.
One snowstorm, I put my Peavey "Renown 400" (Big/heavy a$$ peavey 212 combo).. on a sled..and rode it most of the way to practice.Good times.

and good luck on the audition.

(Maybe you should call them that day to be sure they're all still goin to the audition..it'd suck to go thru all that..and then have them say, "oh,sorry, we figured we'd cancel cause of the snow")

40 *whole* pounds??

Man, I wish one of my cabs only weighed that... and I have 2x10s!!!

Yeah, get a dolly. I picked up one of those collapsable jobs at Sears a few weeks back - works great.

It was cheaper at Sears.

Um... put the amp in the car tonight.... the cold won't hurt it. Let it warm up a few minutes before you crank it on at your audition.

Reschedule. Only emergency vehicles should venture out in those conditions, and then only if it's an emergency. And don't say "it's OK, I have four wheel drive". That's what the median strips are littered with every snowstorm.

You must not live up North. If everyone stayed home every time there was a foot of snow, the whole economy would grind to a halt!

In my day we carried our 8x10's in the snow for 10 miles to a gig, uphill both ways.

I live up in the snowy north east and also lug a B100 around.

For clarification, the B100 weighs just over 53 pounds.

I'm still young and fit, so i hold the top handle in my right hand, then lift the bottom with my left hand, holding the amp sideways. It gets the amp about chest height so my lower body is free to move without impedance.

Of course i have yet to walk a quarter mile in snow...but i like the sled ideas. simple, cheap.

I suggest getting the amp cover for the B100, it's only $10.99, free shipping: http://accessories.musiciansfriend.c...mbo?sku=583912

Peace!

This is totally off the wall, and no I haven't been drinking, but I say go buy a wide metal (usually aluminum) snow shovel with a straight shaft, and some paraffin wax. The wax is typically sold in small boxes of individual bars. Heat the shovel and coat its bottom with paraffin. This will let it slide easily over the snow, and will prevent sticking. Normally you'd paraffin the other side of the shovel to keep snow from sicking to it while you're shoveling, but here you're going to use the shovel as a "tow sled" for the combo. Just pull the shovel behind you, with the amp sitting on top of it.

Might want to check how secure the handle is first. You could drill & run a couple of self-tapping screws through it into the shaft to make sure it doesn't pop off.

Never mind. I actually like Greenboy's idea better. I forgot they make those kid sleds.

is your area secure? I usually pack my car the night before a gig regardless of the weather this way when I'm inevitably running late (which, to me, is still arriving early) and I'm dolled in my finest I'm not going nuts w/ an amp ...
