Carvin B1500 as power amp?

I've been thinking of picking up a used Carvin B1500. I want to use it both by itself, and also as a power amp to go with a separate preamp (like a Monique just for example). That means I would be going in through the fx return, but I don't know how well that would work.

I haven't seen any figures on sensitivity, does anybody know? Is it a good thing to do, or am I better off getting a Peavey IPR or a Crest ProLite?
