Carvin BR410 vs BR410N-8

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone compared these cabs? Here's what I have from the specs:

BR410 - older model, 68lbs, conventional speakers, $359

BR410N-8 - newer model, 65lbs, neo speakers, $429

Both have the same dimentions.

Other than saving 3lbs, why should I buy the BR410N-8 over the BR410?

Thanks!

Why not just get the BRX410? As a huge Carvin fan and product pusher, I suggest the BRX cabs or go get an Avatar or something before the BR series.

yap yap yap

I already own a Carvin BR515N combo. Its a pretty good stand alone combo from which I get 300watts. However I think this good amp could sound great with an additional cab to push more air and to give me the amp's full 500watts of power. I figured I'd get an Avatar 2x10. But seeing as I like my Carvin combo so much, I thought I'd give their cabs a shot too.

I then started to consider a 4x10 but I really don't want to deal with the weight (my light combo has spoiled me). I rather not mess with the BRX 2x10 or 4x10. I hear they're great but they're big and heavy. So I thought I look into Carvin's BR line.

If all do fail, I'll just go back to the original 2x10 plan; maybe Avatar, maybe Carvin. But first, I want to know all my options hence this thread.

Thanks!

Ask them nicely and they'll send you a BRX in 8 Ohms. I think the BRX210 who be great with that 15. I didn't know what you were starting with and I think the Neo is the way to go. I personally like the sound of them. But you should order the pricier one and give it a try, if you don't like it, send it back for the other. Carvin is great about customers trying out products.

+1 on the brx2.10. Great cab and easy to carry. I know they say it's a wildly heavy 46 lbs but it feels more like 42.

All kidding aside it is one of my favorite cabs and I very much regret getting rid of mine. Should match up well to your combo.

I have the BR series (2x10 & 1x15) and they perform just fine. Handle my BX600 with no issues at all.

Hmmm...well at 46lbs, the BRX 2x10 is only a few pounds heavier than the BR210s. And if they can set me up with an 8ohm BXR cab, then that might be the way to go. Actually, my Carvin combo has a BX500 head which, as you know, can handle 2ohms. And while the BX500 was designed to handle the load, I just don't feel comfy with going lower than 4ohms on a regular basis.

I like the idea of keeping the weight below 50lbs so I guess I should reconsider plan A and get a 2x10 cab. Now I suspect the Avatar 2x10 and the Carvin BR210N-8 are just about neck and neck in terms of quality and performance. However I get the feeling the Carvin BRX2x10 has the edge over the Avatar and then some for a few bucks more and 3 or 4 extra pounds.

It might be worth checking in with Carvin about an 8ohm BRX.

Thanks!

I got the BR410 and the BRX10.4 neo cab and the BRX blows the BR410 away, no comparison. If I were you, I'd be seriously be looking into getting the BRX10.4 cab, it's a real unsung hero of a cabinet - seriously.

EDIT: I've also got the BRX10.2 neo cab and it's what I use with my BX500 most of the time. When I've got an outdoor gig I use the BRX10.4 and BRX10.2 with the BX500 at 2 ohms, it is all I need and sounds great.

To be honest, I'm not really sure I want to lug around a 4x10 cab. Its so nice to have a light weight Carvin BR515 combo. I've lugged heavy-ass cabs for years; ENOUGH!!! I think even a BR2x10 would be great with this combo of mine. However the BRX 2x10 will give a lot more ommmff for only a few pounds more. As I said, if I can order it in an 8ohm cab; done deal! For my purposes the muscle of that BRX 2x10 with my already great Carvin BR515 should more than do the trick.

Any other feedback on this is more than welcome!

I say go with the BRX210 8ohm. I know they will make it, but it will have the be made so it won't ship the next day. I think that is the possible set up you can ask for on the cheap, extreme quality, and weight wise.

Most of the time I just play thru the BRX10.2 with BX500 because I don't feel like carrying around heavy equiptment anymore. I hear what you saying, heavy equip. is a drag to carry around when you gig alot. The only time I use my stack is when I play an outdoor gig and that's not very often.

Carvin BRX2x10 vs. BR2x10

Here's my dos centavos,

I live in San Diego and I am a self confessed Carvin Geek. Full on Carvinitus has set it and it's terminal. I can still think objectively though, on occasion.

In your question about what's the difference? Or why should I get the BRX instead of the BR? Here's my thoughts. The BRX is a much fuller sounding cabinet to my ears. I think this is mainly do to the porting on the BRX. The BR doesn't have this feature. Another thing that may or may not contribute to the sound is that the BR cabs are made out of poplar, while the BRX are made out of birch. How big a difference, if any, that makes who knows?

It sounds to me like you're not going after the "Bass Rigs of DOOOoooooom". You just need a little more room filling and I think the BRX 2x10 would work great with your 1x15 combo. If you need the ohmage changed I'm sure a phone call to Carvin could make this happen easily enough. There may be an upcharge, but it wont hurt to call. Keep in mind this is a family business so customer service is still a big priority for them.

There are several players on the Carvin forum that use the BRX 2x10's and love them. In fact the last I heard Bass4Worship was using two of them instead of a 4x10 for ease of transport and the ability to downsize for smaller gigs. I recently picked up a BRX 4x10 and BX1500 and I love the tones I'm able to get out of this rig. I don't think you can go wrong with the BRX 2x10, and dollars to donuts its a great buy.

Good luck and

I have gigged with an Avatar Neo 2x10 as well as the Delta 2x10 and the Carvin BRX2.10. For me the Carvin had a much fuller sound and seemed less directional? Meaning it filled the room well and I could still hear myself standing beside my cab.

The Avatars are great cabs no doubt. The BRX2.10 just sounds right to me.

No need to sell me on the Avatars, I had an old Delta 2x10 that I used for a couple of years that served me well. Then I stopped playing and sold my old set up. Well I'm back and lucky me! These days everything is light weight with neo speakers! Ahhh...

Its pretty apparent that the BRX 2.10 and 4.10 simply have more muscle than Carvin's BR series and the Avatars. For a few more pounds and a few more dollars, I think its worth it. Sure, the Carvin BRs and the Avatars are fine, but the Carvin BRX just has a bit more too it.

I have all of the BRX bass cabs

Hi,

I have the mist recent Carvin 15" combo as well as the BRX 410n and 210n cabinets. I love them all. Last night I had the 15" and the 4X10" with a Jazz Bass (foam mute) and I had 3 different people where I got my "thump" machine or asked how I got my sound (punchy and clear). Really gets through the mix.

The 15" is 8 ohm, the other two are 4 ohms. The amp sill support 2 ohm. I can hook up any two in combination with amp, or any one of them by itself. I have a rack to take the head separate from the 15" cabinet.

I've used every combination, but the killer one is the 15" and the 4x10". For easy carrying the 15" by itself, or I add the 2/10 and use one of them as a stage monitor for the drummer.

Any way I look at it, it's great.

FWIW.
