Carvin BR510 vs GK MB210??

Sign in to disble this ad
To make a long story short, I sold my bass rig (perfect rig IMO btw ) as I thought I wouldn't play out again or ever really need an amp. Well, parts of my band will re-group to jam, record, and play gigs. We've been jamming via preamps and headphones (drummer using electronic kit). We will be going away from this and jamming with amps, live drum kit, etc. Plus, it appears I might be jamming with another group friends.

But, I'm now challenged with funds. I typically buy used, but don't have the funds available to get exactly what I want. I'm hoping to get a solid, lightweight combo to use for a year while working to get more funds (I don't like to charge anything).

I have a Frankenstein Ampeg/Peavey 1x15 cab (8 ohm) that I'm looking at complementing these two amps.

Carvin BR510==appears solid and I like the EQ options. But, I've never tried one. As in quality, I can't personally compare--so I'm really looking for some input.

GK MB210==I like the weight and portability. I've owned several 800RBs in the past, and have always like GK. I have a 20% off coupon for MF making this amp a much better deal overall. I've played thru on at GC, but not with my own bass.

Thoughts?

OK, I know you are looking for used. I have purchased a Hartke head and cab about 9 months ago. I have also tried their combos at the store. This one was promising.

If you have a little more scratch, give this one a go (not very lightweight though)...

Hope you're successful!

Historically, I haven't liked Hartke stuff; thus, I've stayed away. I haven't play one in a while so might be worth another try.

I stopped at GC today to get some strings. The MB210 was gone. Salesman said he has sold one a week for the past 4 weeks. I just wish I could try a Carvin.

Here's a video of Phil Martin and Darryl Williams demoing a BX500 into a 2x10. Not exactly what you've got your eye on, but pretty close. You'll need good headphones or a good stereo to get the full effect. (Crank it.)

I tried an MB210 at GC, and it sounds AMAZING. However, I own a BX500 and played it through my 410/210 "3/4 stack". Equally impressive. I don't think you can go wrong with either one. The EQ on the BX really does change the tone up a great deal, and it gets LOUD, too.
What sold me on the BX is that it will do 2 ohms, which my stack is because I have an SVT 2-pro that runs 2 or 4 ohms only. I wanted to be able to use my stack, and not only one cab...
