I'm looking at a Carvin BR610. What are your thoughts on it? I haven't looked at it yet. I do not gig at this time but am wanting to move up from a practice amp to something more substantial and have read that I should move at least to 300 watts plus cab

I use it. It's a monster. You can dial your tone in quickly. I play mainly with a flat setting, added a little bass boost, drive and compression.

I'm adding a 15 cab to it (400W 8ohms) - no problems. I play a Japanese Fender Jazz 75 four-string and an OLP MM. The two tens can pump a lot of air - at low volumes, the amp is SO clean. The DI and pre/post is awesome. The extra EQ (other than parametric) helps me get all kinds of tones. I run a Zoom B2.1u, and the tuner out port in the back is really useful in conjunction with the mute switch on the front.

It's not too heavy, but still, try and get casters. The tilt-back is great for smaller venues. I play outdoors often and the sound carries for over 100 ft. at volume level 5. (and I'm competing with a Marshall stack and the drummer, LOL!)

I'm pretty happy with it.
