Carvin MB15 amp

Sign in to disble this ad
... I just pulled the trigger and ordered a Carvin MB15.
200w and with a plug-in extension speaker 250w.
$399.00.

Reasons:

1. I've been wanting a 15" cab
2. I've been wanting a more powerful small gig amp, my 25w Fender Rumble is good for practice and REALLY small gigs. (church etc.)
3. I'm a geezer so I like 'em light! 32.6 lbs.
4. I've always wanted a tweed amp ($18 extra)

Sooooo, at $399 + $18 (tweed) + $40 shipping + $34.40 CA sales tax ..... $491.40 total.

I hope I like it!
I'll be using it alone for most gigs, and some others I'll plug in my Avatar 2x10 or my 1x12.

*Before ya say it - I gig a lot with my old GK400B head. 250w into two cabs, less into one cab of course. I have my Carvin R1000 if I need MORE power, but rarely do.*

When it arrives, you pop that little guy on top of the 2x10, connect them with the external speaker jack, and watch what happens. I'm doing the same with a B212. Sweet.

You're gonna love the preamp section. It's one of the best out there, bar none. I've suggested Carvin build a preamp-only version of the MB head, but no responses yet.

I like the preamp because, for me, it has everything I want and nothing I don't need or could get into trouble with. I especially like the low-mid parametric, which lets me add in bass in the 50-100 Hz range. The bass control runs in a range that's a bit too low for my tastes, but I'd probably make the same comment about the majority of other amps' bass controls, too. (For my needs, many of 'em a) are kneed way too low and b) are not of the shelving type.)

Also think of the stomp boxes or rack units the MB effects obviate: a parametric unit, a compressor, and a drive/grind unit. Studio-class? Not sure. But still pretty effective. Can you imagine that preamp built into a B-1010 box? How non-mainstream and cool would that thing be, with the panel mounted at a 30-degree angle in that box? Could even try bringing the thing to the studio with you, so you can bring your signature sound and not have to rely on the engineer to duplicate it (if it in fact turned out to be quiet enough).

Well, hope you enjoy it!

At the price of a BX500, it would be quite reasonable for just the preamp -- if the direct out is hot enough to drive a power amp (not sure on that).

Get us some reviews soon if you can! I liked it alot when I tried it in San Diego. I played with the EQ while another fellow was playing an active 5-string thru it.

I received my MB10 today and it's an amazing little amp. Played my Ric, my ATK and my Spector through it and they never sounded better. I can see rehearsing with it because it gets LOUD. Pics later...
