I have a chance to get this for USD $125 on CL (or best offer). It has 100 watts (at 4 ohms I believe), and a ten inch speaker. I was wondering how this amp sounds and if anyone uses it. I plan on just using to take places to jam, it will probably be my main gigging amp for a while, (till December at the latest(hopefully)). I have an old peavey now which has 130 watts and a 15 inch speaker. It's loud, but has no tone. So why I want it is to not break my back when I'm going to jam, and maybe just leave it at a (friend's) studio. I want to know it's weight and how loud it gets (enough for small-medium venues). I also want to know if $125 is a good price. Thanks, Nate.

Carvin PB-100-10

This is officially called the Carvin PB-100-10

It is 100 watts into an 8 ohm speaker. The internal amplifier is not capable of operating into a 4 ohm speaker (only 8 ohms). If you try to use a 4 ohm speaker the amp will blow.

It is a decent amp and is sometimes called "the mouse that rored" by its owners with one drawback. The ten inch speaker will eventually blow (the voice coil will open) as told to me by a close friend who is a amp repair person. He has replaced many of these tens in the PB-100-10.

I used to own the PB-100-15 for ten years. It is a much more reliable amp and I sold it a year ago for $100 still working fine.

Okay, I think I'll jump on it if I sell my Electric guitar.

I had a PB 100-15 for years too. Bulletproof and louder than you might think. I used a sansamp BDDI in front of it and it had pretty damn good tone.

Mine had the 15" speaker but sounded real clear. It wasn't a hi-fi type of sound but it was a good combo. I used my sansamp for a little Ampeg style grit.

Do they have a cd/iPod input?

CD inputs

The early issue of the PB amps did not have the CD inputs. After about 2 years they started offering the CD inputs. My first year amp did not have them.

just realize, that 100 watts through a single 10 will not get near as loud as your Peavey. I would NOT expect this amp to hold up with a band.
