Case for SWR SM-900?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just acquired a used SWR SM-900 head. I'm looking to buy a case (inexpensive?) for it to protect it in storage and when transporting. Any suggestions?

thx.

What about a 2 space Gator rack bag? $79 I have one and love it!

EDIT: One thing I just learned is that you need to have at least a 3 space rack for this head. The colling vents are on top of the case. I removed mine from the two space rack bag and bought a 3 space. Much better! And now I have room for my Seigmund Double D single rack space tube emulator! The SWR cooling vents are at the rear of the top, so they are still open after installing my Double D and the rack bags are lighter than a conventional rack.

For the SM series I'd leave an extra space for ventilation. Gator rack bags are good, SKB cases, Carvin Road Warrior cases also seemed impressive.

A bit on the heavy side but I got a 3 space 14" rack case for my SM amps. They allow for plenty of air circulation and are constructed well.

Here is the product page

Get something that allows for some ventilation. My old SM-900 could have fried up some mean eggs and bacon at the end of some long sets I think. I liked having the extra space since those amps like to run hot.

+1 to everyone that said get a 3 space rack- I have that amp and it can and will overheat badly in a 2 space.

i have a two space rack with an additional fan exhausting the hot air out of the rack and it's working fine.

Used mine for years in the SKB standard two space rack. However, I always ran mine bridged into 8ohms, and if you pushed it, it did get hot. Not hot enough to be a problem, but 'disturbingly' hot. If you bridge into 4ohms, you will definitely need a three space rack.

Avoid rack bags, IMO, which typically restrict airflow a bit too much for this head. The SKB standard 2 space has some nice space on the side and also top and bottom, and works well.

Rack bags are great though for the SM series, a 3 space is highly recommended. I had edited my previous post as I had learned that it needs top space for cooling. A rack bag actually gives a little bit more cushion should it be dropped than a conventional rack.

always make sure it's got support on the bottom and ventilation, whatever you do.
