Casters/cab tilting

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a show coming up at a small venue so I'm only bringing my 4x10 with and I had an idea for tilting the cab so that I can hear myself better and I wanted to know if anyone has done it before and had any luck with it.

I was thinking if just taking off the back two casters to achieve the tilt. It seems pretty obvious to me so I'm sure others have done it before. Seem like a pretty decent idea? And issues with this that I'm not thinking about?

The degree of tilt probably won't be adequate. It depends how far away from the cab you stand.

Thanks Bill. Since the stage is pretty darn tiny I'm not going to be very far from it. Is it so small of a difference that I shouldn't bother or do you think it might help slightly?

It's what I do sometimes. Just remove the back casters. In my case it's the Infinity 3.5" w/slide out mounts.

+1. I've tried this and it does'nt make much of a difference. Why not just raise it up on a milk crate or something of that size? Works for me.

Thanks for the input all.

As long as it doesn't hurt the sound I might as well give it a shot.

I've done it before with smaller cabs in tight spaces and it worked well, where it's more like a regular wedge monitor.
On bigger cabs, not so much.

I alway put my cab on top of the drummer's case (for all the drum hardware). It's height's about 17" high.
Works great that way. It's much better than having the cab on the ground.

NO MILK CRATES EVER!!!

get a proper amp stand or a small wedge or use the wheels as you described. if the tilt might not be enough for a tiny stage, use a wedge of wood painted black or an amp stand. milk crates = non-pro look.

I also found in this thread (I was a milk crate offender), that you can lose some of the acoustic coupling with the crates. See Bill Fitz' response in the link below.

There are also some links to some tilt back solutions, as well as lifters in that thread.

What are some good "lifter" cabinets?

Notice with my emphasis added, what Bill said: "If you lift the cab more than a foot or so..."

There is a wedge that is made specifically for this purpose. I don't know the name of it but try searching the net for it... it's out there.

Markbass makes a folding cab stand. Anyone try it?

Just noticed if you scroll down, there are other cab stand options ...

One of these should fit your application well ...

I take off my back casters alot of the time, even on small stages. Even a small amount of difference is good to my ears.......which aren't in my legs.....
