Celestion question for you amp heads out there

Ok I have a 1x15" 300 watt Behringer BXL3000 (yeah yeah yeah... I know). I want to get more punch out of it. Now before I go making a DIY 2x12" cab... would putting in an Orange Label Celestion 300 watt speaker in there get me more of the punch I want? The current speaker is 200 watt (yeah yeah I know lol) and is a "classic tone" series and we know what that means... warm lows, deep, etcetc. but not punchy... so I guess what I am asking is will there be a difference if I swap it out for another 15 DESIGNED to be punchy? And yes I know I ill probably have to build another cab and I'm ok with that.

Hmmm no answers... well I check the FAQ a kazillion times while looking for a new cab over the past few months. I really want a 15 cause I use my B string... what I'm afraid of is this whole "punchy" and "classic" "series" speaker thing being a company gimmick... can speaker of the same size and magnet really differ THAT much in tone?

Adding a speaker to a cabinet that it wasn't designed for, is a sure fire way to sound bad.

Either build a new cab, or buy a different cab. But don't just replace the speaker.

I know, I said I wouldn't mind building a new cab in my original post. But what about this whole punchy and classic tone series mess some companies are saying? legit?

Define punch. Is that at 100Hz? 200Hz? 3kHz? Is a response bump? Or a response dip?

Since 'punch' and 'classic tone' are euphemisms that have no technical definition one can't predict whether a certain driver will give you what you want.

Speaker size is immaterial.

They can. But if you don't know what the response is of the driver you have now, and don't know what the response would be of what you'd like to have, there's no way to make a driver recommendation other than via purely subjective speculation, ie., "I really like mine, so you should too".

Lol I see what you're saying. I'm not electronically illiterate but the Chinese people who made my amp seem to be... no specs from what I can tell, maybe I'll have to pull up some more info on it.

Lol I just want lots of fret noise with initial low midrange punch to a smooth roll off
