Anybody ever replaced a speaker or speakers in an Ampeg SVT 410 he with the same Celestion TF1020 that Avatar offers on their website?
Anyone with experience with this speaker in general, and better yet in this cab- would this give a similar sound to the original speakers or would it change it a bunch?
Any other 10" speaker that would be a better choice?
Thanks for any insight!

Just wondering if there is a lower cost alternative that would sound as good or close. The Celestions are for sealed cabs and are only $120 for 4 of them, that's why I was wondering. What about the Eminence Delta-10's?

My suggestion: call / email Ampeg and ask them to help you out. Chances are good they can sell you a replacement directly for a reasonable rate.
Definitely cheaper than buying 4 new speakers of any other type that is liable to work (e.g. eminence betas).

The Celestion TF1020 has a power bandwidth of 150W at 60-3000 HZ. If you drive them at a lower frequency, you need to reduce the power. When power goes up, your bandwidth shrinks. The Eminence Alpha 10A actually is higher spec'ed at 51-3800 Hz and more Xmax than the TF1020 and has the same power rating and sells for $50 everyday, so the TF1020 isn't worth more than $50 at regular price. Celestion says the TF1020 works well in a high pass cab. |

That's what I would get if I didn't get Ampeg's replacement speakers. They were designed specifically to work in 810e's and 410he's. Their treble response also goes up to 5khz, which is what the Ampeg speakers do. The Alpha's 3.8khz is passable, but good luck getting them in 32 ohms. I wouldn't even consider the Celestions, though. At only 3khz, they're going to be some pretty dark sounding speakers.

I needed the impedance to be 8 ohms and didn't want to pay for genuine SWR drivers. I guess I wasn't really surprised but they weren't very good for bass. They seemed to really project the mids well but as others have said your not going to get the same sound unless you put the same drivers in.
I also have a Traynor 610 cab I reloaded with Eminence Alpha 10's and it sounds really nice! Old skool cool.
The TF1020's are a great value for a box with blown drivers that's not worth anything in the aftermarket and you just want to get it going to make some noise for a beer can basement jam band or practice. IMO your Ampeg is worth repairing with genuine drivers. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
