Celestion Trace and Eminence Speaker Quality

Sign in to disble this ad
I have always heard that Eminence speakers are of a much higher quality than Celestions. Trace Elliot, a quality company in bass gear, chooses to fill their cabs with Celestions. Is it a "special" Celestion that Trace uses or am I mistaken in my belief that Eminence is a higher quality speaker in the first place.

This hadn't even been a consideration when I was in the hunt for Ampeg. Now I am looking at Trace and Mesa. I also am concerned with the cabinet dimensions of the Trace; I like deep cabs but the widths seem narrow.

Am I off base (get it) with my speaker quality and cab dimension considerations with this otherwise highly regarded company?

Eminence and Celestion are brand names. They each make a wide variety of drivers. There's no way to compare accross the board, unless you're talking about a specific driver.

So the Trace Elliot players have no complaints with their Celestion speakers?

Before everybody started sourcing from and/or building in the far east, it was because of local availability. Trace, Marshall, et al were UK companies and so was Celestion. Eminence, Jensen, JBL, are what you found in Fenders, etc. US companies. Things have changed since then but yes, both companies make a wide variety of drivers. They also make custom spec drivers for amp and speaker companies....like Trace, or Ampeg, or whoever. It's not a "this company is better than that one", as RickenBoogie said.
