Cerwin Vega BG 250

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi! new member here,

I have the opportunity to buy a used Cerwin Vega BG 250 bass amp, but it needs some 'minor repair.'

It works, but when you flip the switch to from bright to normal the amp goes dead, and even on bright, the amp loses it's punch after a while.

he wants $200 for it, not sure how much it'll cost to fix. The big dilemma here is that for another 200 bucks I can get a lot more amp for my money.

what do you guys think?

I had one of these years ago - in the '80's!

It was a great amp, and could take a lot of abuse. I ran 2 4 X 10 Dynacoustics cabs with it. I had a lot of gigs in mine before I sold it.

I agree that for $400.00, there are many other newer, more gigworthy amps out there. You could get a brand spankin' new Carvin BX 500 for that money.

I heard one of the all time best bass tones coming out of one of these at a show a long long time ago and vowed to buy one of these someday. that day came a year ago and I snatched one up for $30 plus a 175 miles round trip. it still needs a good service to get it back to where it's running properly but even if i sink a couple hundred into it I'll still be ahead. I'm still wondering if I'm crazy for wanting to find the matching cabinets to go with it!!

I still cant decide if I'm going to get that head or not. Of course, it's hard to really tell what it will sound like after I get it fixed, and get a different cabinet(s). The pink beast there is on loan, it's filled with cheapie Radio-shack speakers, a 15 and an 18. the 18 is blown, it sounds horrible.

That's my 5-string there, a Squier precision bass. I have mixed feelings about it, but that's topic for a different discussion.
