changing 4x10 4-ohm to 8-ohm

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 4-ohm Eden 4x10 and need to change it to an 8-ohm cab without spending a lot of money. I have contacted Eden several times and can't get a wiring diagram and have no idea what ohm speakers are in the cab or if I can rewire to 8-ohms.

Anyone have any experience with this? I can use some help.

Thanks.

You cant do it with the speakers that are in it.

Your 4 ohm cabinet is loaded with either 4 ohm or 16 ohm speakers. Those four speakers can not be wired in any combination that will yield a 8 ohm load.

There are three ways to change a 4 ohm cab into an 8 ohm cab ...

1) Sell it and put the money toward an 8 ohm cab.

2) Trade it for an 8 ohm cab.

3) Replace all the speakers with those of proper impedance to make an 8 ohm configuration (if it has a crossover and tweeter, you'll have to replace those, too).

Take your pick.

Very common question, and always, the answer is the same.

I guess my best bet is to sell and buy and 8 ohm cab.
Thanks for your answers.

Why do you need to change the Ohms from 4 to 8? That would give less Watts, right?

Maybe he wants to add a 2nd cab to a 4 ohm minimum amp?

Reason for chaning 4 oh to 8 ohm cab
My amp is an Eden WT600 and is 600 watts at 8 ohms mono bridged or 300 watts 4 ohms / 175 watts 8 ohms per side. Right now I am running 300 watts into a 700 watt cab and I want a simple setup of a single 700 watt 8 ohm 4x10 cab being pushed by the 600 watts mono bridged.

I'm not sure whether the 410 can take the whole 700W. I'd run it off 1 channel and leave it at that. That way, you'll have the chance to upsize your rig in the future.

There is a special switch you can get that will switch between 4 and 8 ohms but only for your DC outputs.

...............runs like hell

The difference between running 300 vs 600 watts into that cab is gonna be minimal. You want louder get a bigger cab. If You are worried about underpowering the cab, that's just another big MI myth.

You'll gain absolutely nothing by doing so. Leave it alone. If it's not loud enough add another identical cab, run it off the other channel.
