Changing the Speakers to change the Ohms

Sign in to disble this ad
im not sure if this is in the right section but, i have a couple different 4x10 cabs that have 1 or 2 speakers blown on them. Ones a GK Goldline and the other is a Carvin pos. is there a way that i could put new speakers in these cabs to change them to 4 ohms and be able to handle say my AMpeg Svt Classic or Mark Bass Tube 800?

Yes, but it likely won't be cheap (speakers don't run cheap in the open market, at least in my experience).

For a 4x10 4 Ohm cab, you will need a quantity of 4 16Ohm speakers (wired in parallel)

Or, you will need a quantity of 4 4Ohm speakers (wired in series-parallel).

If you don't know what that means, see this site:

http://www.colomar.com/Shavano/4x12wiring.html

Unless you can find a good deal on speakers, it's likely cheaper just to buy a 4 Ohm cabinet (I'm guessing the two cabs you have were 8 Ohms, so you're probably not going to be able to wire the speakers you have to get a 4 Ohm cab).

Please read the FAQ atop page one. Just shoving four speakers into a box will be a crapshoot at best.

you'll spend way less money in the long run just getting a 4 ohm cab.
