Cheaper bass cab that can handle my Peavey tour 700 head?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just got a smoking deal on a Peavey Tour 700 head, and need a cab to match it to. I was wanting something used around $250, but everything I find wont handle the head. I found some good local deals on some hartkes, and even an ampeg 4x10, but they wont handle 350 watts at 8 ohm. Anything with a good reputation and goes cheap that I should be looking for? Ive only ever had a crate and a hartke before. The hartke was ok, the crate was crap. I play in drop c on an Ibanez EDC 700.

1 thing is for sure, playing bass aint a cheap hobby, best bet is to go for a second hand cab. if your looking for a 350 watt 8 ohm cab what about the peavey 410 tvx, careful tho, i think they do a 4 ohm version too, but with the red light on the tour head lighting up when in danger zones you should be ok.

how much was the tour 700?

Checkout a used Line6 4x10...plenty of handling and good tone.
Just a thought or even a Carvin BR410 cab....

$250 bucks. Works like a dream. Ill take that deal everyday of the week. Speaking of, if I run the output on this amp directly to my computer, can I record this way? I read that some amps you can and some you cant.

$250! thats alot of watts for your $, nice 1.
as for recording with it...you would be best to use the DI out to a desk then into the line in on your soundcard, unless you have a dedicated recording soundcard installed, that said i think the DI may be pre EQ, try it and see

Ok, well let me ask this. If the DI is pre-eq, then would it be better to just continue recording using amplitube 3 with the ampeg svx pack?

And yeah, 700 watts for $250, im cool with that. More bass for the buck.

These do: Ampeg: Classic Series - SVT-410HE
But there quite a bit more than $250

Maybe Carvin?

No 4x10 will handle 500W (or even 350W) of drop-tuned bass. You need to EQ out some bass, turn down or get more drivers. See if you can score a cheap Ampeg fridge .

I have seen these used in your price range. The Avatars will handle the wattage no problem. The Peavey I think were rated at 500 watts.
And yes; EQ accordingly.

Used Avatar 4 X 10 or 2 X 12 Delta series (non-neo)

Used Peavey Tour series 4 X 10.

remember, what a cab is rated for is normally double what it will actually handle. especially the lower frequencies.

Wow, Im in bigger trouble than I thought. I just found the Peavey Headliner 4x10 at a good price. I know theyre not as good as the tour line, but has anyone here actually played on one?

Or what about an avatar 2x10 or avatar 2x12 for $250? Would I be able to add a 4x10 onto this down the road? Im only writing now, not planning on gigging for a while.

IMO, yes, i would stick to your current methods for recording, that said... try it and see, it might work well, i'm speaking from using a tour 450 head in live situ, the DI was not all that IMO, i used a DI box in the effects loop to get the EQing i wanted to the FOH

yes your quite right, running at 8 ogms does not half the power output,

back to the OP question... $250 is a slim budget to get a decent cab, i'd be looking second hand only, keep your eyes out for a bargain, when you try em out take your amp with you and see how it sounds to YOU

if you go down this route you will always be making the 2x10 work harder than the 4x10, not advisable IMO, better to use 2 x 2x10s (or 2 x 2x12s) vertically alligned

If you felt like doing a road trip, this cab would handle it:
