Check out this vintage Orange head!

Hey y'all. I Picked up this OR-80 last fall for an outrageously low price, all original early 70's 80 watt Orange. It's one of the ones with only graphics over the knobs. I'm not much of an expert on vintage orange stuff nor is there any decent and comprehensive guides that I can find on the web so I can't really tell you much more than that. Had it re-tubed and cleaned up, and it sounds KILLER. Not too loud, but I'm using it for trio gigs with a 1x15 and it's working out really well. It also gets some really awesome distortion going if you drive it hard. Looking forward to using it in the studio.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any sites where I can get some info on old Orange stuff. I'd like to find out what it's worth and what the specs are on it.

Thanks!

Just graphics, no text. Turn up the fist!

Gets a little confusing. The first knob is a low mid cut, gradually cutting more the more you turn it up. The second knob turns down the lows as you turn it up. The third turns up the treble. The fist seems to be a "presence" type control, and the speaker logo is the master volume. The jacks by the mountains seem to be effects send and return.

Funky ohm and power selectors

The orange website has a owners forum.

I would start there....

its about 50watts isn't it from 2 el34s?

first knob is FAC or bass cut control, second and third are bass and treble (baxandall similar to ampeg so both set to the centre is actually flat) forth is boost, and fifth is master.

Since its a PIX model i'd expect it to go for about 600-700 pounds on ebay.

Thanks guys. I thought I'd read somewhere that the OR-80 was 80 watts, hence the name. That's what I was going by.

yeah it might do the 80 watts on a good day but 50/60 watts is more realistic.

Makes sense, it's not too loud. Would make a great guitar amp.

Would make for a great studio amp too. Volume is great, and sometimes you need it. That's why they make big amps and huge speaker cabs. But, it's all about the tone, and it seems you've got that covered well. Nice score.
